I don't think you're going to see a lot of conversion out of Tumblr. You should build some content rich blogs and use them as linkbait. Blogspot and Wordpress can really drive some traffic if you're patient enough to wait for it to build up.

If it were me I would build a link pyramid under each article on the main sites. I wouldn't hit the gold links with 5k, make some content rich blogs that point to the main article with anchored backlinks and blast them with 5k trackbacks each. I would definitely recommend freshly scraped lists...

I have had good success with Vidalia and the Tor Switcher set to 1 minute intervals. Toktumi is great for disposable numbers too.
