Really good read if you are interested in on-page SEO and semantic search -

https://www.link-assistant.com/news/optimizing-for-semantic-search.html

Summary
Masha describes how Google uses TF-IDF algorithm to determine keyword frequency - this is common knowledge I think but its interesting, basically how many times a keyword appears on a page vs how many times it appears elsewhere on the internet.
There was also a discussion a few days ago on BHW about keyword frequency on a per niche basis, and I wonder if Googles algorithm will calculate the density of keyword on a page, vs density on the web as a whole vs density of the keyword on other sites in same niche (Like working out a mean average for the industry / all results for a keyword).

Also Masha talks about how Google are focusing now much more on the intent of a user when searching for a phrase rather than the actual phrase itself.

Also, importantly Google groups together lots of different phrases, keywords and so on for each search and then they have a big list of keywords and phrases, people, places that are relevant to a topic and then use that information when analysing a page to determine how relevant it really is to any particular phrase.

A good example of this in the article was - if a page was about New York but it didnt mention the term Brooklyn then Google wouldnt consider it very authoritative on that topic, even if it did mention the term New York 5 times per 1000 words or whatever.

Anyway, its definitely worth a read.

Relevance is so important. Since I started using textoptimizer I've learnt this. It's not about stuffing your MW in an article loads of times at all. In fact I recently tweaked one article by adding in some related words to the niche (suggestions from textoptimizer) my rankings improved by 80+ places over night to around the mid 30s. The site was a couple of weeks old and I had not built a single backlink to it.

TL'DR version: high quality articles always win.

Pretty much yes. But I notice as well that when buying articles lot of people always look for the quality of the read, spelling grammer etc - which is obviously important. But research is obviously very important as well - because if the topic isn't researched in detail then its not going to be covering the topic comprehensively and thus its going to suffer because of that.

Interesting article, thanks.

People do underestimate the importance of the quality of an article, I have seen samples of high quality guest posts recently and the article was badly spun jibberish or had be written by a 10 year old child.

Is there a tool to test the quality/relevance of a text?

I'm just looking at this, it might be what you need. textoptimizer

Yes, definitely - the thing is as well, I am seeing more and more search terms where the top 3 or 4 results dont even mention the exact match phrase anywhere on their title / site / backlink profile etc. And this is obviously why. As they mentioned in the article, of course exact match does work still but clearly Google are becoming less reliant on it and they can work out the relevant sites in other ways.

I am guessing that the same applies for backlink anchor text - LSI and related terms in anchor text is becoming more important.

Thanks I am going to look at textopimizer as well but I have also just downloaded SEO powersuite - they have a tool in there that will measure the TF-IDF for every word / phrase on your page and then cross reference the results with the top 10 sites or something that are ranking for your chosen keyword then let you know whether you should be mentioning various related words/phrases more or less based on that data. I havnt tried it yet but it sounds interesting.

oh ye, @bartosimpsonio told me some similar stuff couple months ago. i did way way way more research and it helped alot

this tool probably scans top 10 or whatever for a kw u entered and looks for common words/terms, then tells u to enter them on your website.

well sure you can do that, or you can just do more kw research before doing everything. related terms are imo much much more important than "common words from top 10". related terms always help me apart from such tools.

btw this tool tells me to remove very very related words so i wouldnt count on it

I stumbled across the original thread last night turns out it's in bets mode. Hence why it's free. So looks like it will be turning premium but if it's a reasonable price then it's going to be on my list of monthly purchases

The problem with this is google bombing. They made the kw presence on the link target obligatory because you could otherwise blast a reputable page with a certain kw anchor and rank it. E.g. "miserable failure".

just checked this today and its already a paid service..you need to buy credits now, minimum is 50 credits for $9.9. still relatively cheap anyway

Big thank you guys for sharing and enjoying ;) the article!
We really hope it is helpful for all your SEO projects!

Absolutely true. You can discover the relevant terms and concepts that you may use to improve your page's relevance and rankings using Website Auditor and its TF-IDF tool ( available in free edition).

Textoptimizer dot com looks great, thanks @Holzr .
Suggestions were relevants so i am testing it on my pages right now. crossed finger.
@Holzr may i ask how you use it exactly ?
The WP plugin had some bug.

its not "niche based". its even more fucked up. its results based. on KW per kw....

but the usual white knight morrons dont get, that off page anchor fuck up that total "I made some statitistical bullshit analzysing on page" reports.

i thought kw presence in text is not obligatory in order to rank for it (considering we still have other related LSI, and lets say we have "bank" as first word and "rob" as last word on our page, would we rank for "rob bank" or not?)
