Do you interlink with exact or partial match keywords or exact title or generic words?

According to thread title what your personal method to interlinking one page/post to another page/post?
I was using exact match title to interlinking. After fred update i am thinking it could be red flag(google slap heavily in this fred update).

I was using like this:
related: "Full title of other post and linked with that post"

I want to remove this full title interlinking and want to interlink with generic word. What do you think about it?

Is this internal linking?

You control internal links, so you can basically choose the anchors and they can be more keyword heavy.

But for external links you don't control them so there's gotta be a mix of no anchor, partial kw, mispelled kw, and so on, what looks like a natural link profile.

That is correct, it is interlinking using the title as the anchor, which is why you need to also take note of this. You don't want to have a specific post being linked to in the "related article" section from every page on your site wide linkerlinking like this can also hurt you.

Yes, I can control. But, I think i am doing something wrong with interlinking. I am using exact match title which are hurting my overall seo! Still i unable to fred slap logic thus i am considering this could be reasons too?

I was talking about linking my website posts together.
Go to Wikipedia, look how they interlink their posts. That is what I do to link my posts to each other.

my interlinking includes usually 2 links to related pages per 1000 words, and a related posts plugin at the bottom of pages. For the anchors I usually just think of whats natural like if your in a snowboarding article about how to snowboard in for 500 words "thats my best tip for snowboarding, if you want to see a list of the best snowboards click here" 300th post woo

I have some big post. Over 2400 words. I was linked 4 links with title anchors. Now, thinking I will use generic + something you told above.

Go to Wikipedia, look how they interlink their posts. That is what I do to link my posts to each other.

It good idea. But, did you notice they have used exact match anchor like: baby food linking wikipedia.org/baby-food , good watch liking anchor wikipedia.org/good-watch . They are authority and they can do that. But, i don't think we can apply similar things.

Internal overoptimization is actually a thing. You can go much harder as you would with offsite anchors, sure, but never overdo it. Try to make it look natural, don't make 50% internal links with exact match anchor. That applies to contextual interlinking.

When it comes to menus, try to avoid exact keywords as well. That can lead to screwed up keyword densities. With related posts you should not be afraid of overoptimization really. They always link with full title and every site in the world does that.
