Copyright for Images older than 70 years?

Hi,

I would like some expert advises on copyright. I am planning to use commercially on the US territory images that:
- older than 70 years
- the author wasn't a US resident
- the owner of the material no longer exists

I was wondering if I should still worry about the copyright.

But let's say, if the copyright law in the country of origin is different, like 50 years to end up in the public domain instead of 70 years. Which law applies?

The law would apply to the country of the copyright holder, not to the country of content.

If the owner of the material doesn't exist, then what are you worried about? Copyright infringement can only be filed by owners of the copyright'ed material.

If the owner is dead, the copyright hasn't been extended or trademarked or something, then really you're not going to have a problem.

How you know that owner is already dead ? and how you verifying that images exact copyright owner ? Its obvious if owner is dead or lost in jungle, you are safe to use his material if your buyer didnt find that material shared online (Shared somewhere for free like images).

Their family or estate can come after you for infringing upon the copyright, uncommon unless it is famous works, as a copyright infringement case isn't cheap and requires upfront investment.
