In the past, I've used a Facebook comment plugin, but I guess that's not allowing people who don't have a Facebook account to comment therefore reducing the number of comments the site receives.

What plugin would you recommend that allows people with a say a Twitter account, to also comment?

Another option would be to allow people to register on the site, using their social media account and inturn become a 'subscriber'?

I don't wish to allow people to comment anonymously, as I've found that increases spam and comments from trolls.

Jetpack allows you to comment using Google+, twitter or facebook. Also keeps the native wordpress comments.

That's great, I'll check it out. I saw another plugin last week, but forget what it was called. It allowed people to register to your site using sociamedia accounts and therefore then also become part of your site - ideally, I'd love to be able to do that and allow them to then submit content, vote on articles etc so it's more a community type feeling, too.

Jetpack also has a feature that let users like your posts, but it's not very pretty looking and does not cover all your needs. What you need is a theme like Boombox, check this out:

Try Jetpack comments and postmatic. Hope this will meet your needs.

Disqus Comment System. Disqus is one of the most well-known commenting systems in the world — it's also the one we use on this very site. You can also try Jetpack Comments. Jetpack offers arguably the widest-ranging functionality of all WordPress plugins. Besides there are also -
Postmatic, wpDiscuz, CommentLuv.

Here are a few that might interest you.
  • CommentLuv.
  • DX Unanswered
  • Comment Approved.
  • Disqus Comment System.
  • Yoast Comment Hack.
  • LiveFyre Comments 3.
  • Intense Debate.
  • Jetpack by WordPress.
I use Jetpack BTW. But Disqus is pretty popular these days.

I've tried DIsqus. I find it annoying. It takes a while to load and on top of that there are 4-5 links at the bottom. I'll check out others, but definitely not impressed with that.

Using the CommentLuv plugin with the WordPress is the right choice for SEO

Nothing better than Jetpack. It is very easy to work with it.
