The only conclusion I can draw is standard old tactics didn't rank five separate sites for <1k m/s keywords, and the sites only saw significant movement after throwing SAPE and public blog network posts at them.

Thankfully enough, the case study also gave me enough reason to conclude that SAPE footer links have been significantly gutted and devalued by Penguin 4.0.

The sites are ranking pretty well in Bing and Yahoo though, and have continued to pull in the occasional conversion.

@Zevoltai - So you managed to rank first page in bing/yahoo before using the sape/pbn links? Also are they all still indexed?

Yup, they're all still indexed, not ranking nearly as high as they were before the SAPE changes though. Went from mid to bottom of page 1 to anywhere from page 2 to 7 on all keywords, then I used PBN posts from Seoways's gigantic network to bump them back up. Ultimately the posts rolled off the first page on his network sites, and now they're stuck somewhere in between.

Ok, so nothing new . Sape links I even don't use to almost 2 years, GSA didn't open 1 year, public PBN's don't use to .

So all is same, still most important is good on-page, good articles and really good links from private blog network, and some low-cheaper links like web 2.0 or something for diversity... One thing that changed is that need to charge clients more and more .

And for bing and yahoo, you can still rank easily with exact domain names and spam links even for bigger keywords...

If the sites got ranked on Yahoo and Bing, I think it's still totally worth it. After all, you're pulling in some conversions.

If those keywords have on google volume <1000 on Bing and Yahoo, they have <100, and count how much you need to invest even in those links to rank it on bing and yahoo and how much you can earn... dont know maybe you can earn some money but nothing special.

however, would have been better if you have gradually, month by month did the altering of the linkbuilding.
you threw everything in in 4 weeks - hard to figure out, what REALLY bumped that way.

Since this month, all my sites which been hammered directly by GSA SER ranks drop like crazy!!
One of my site was ranked on page 2 for several 10K+ MS keyword, now rank nothing....site still indexed.
The site backlinks mixed links from expired web 2.0, PBN, bought PBN, PR, web 2.0 and GSA SER with self-scraped and bought list.
I'm kind of hesitate to use GSA SER now....

Doing a massive whitehat project right now with a startup. My GSA stuff is still ranked in Bing to this day and generating leads though, lol.
