Please listen: don't ever do anything to your site during a update. Even if it disappears. Just sit still, enjoy some tea (or whiskey), enjoy the tsunami like @BlackSeng said.

Yeah I removed around 40 links

I agree, doing any changes during the update is not recommended. However, I couldn't stop myself. I didn't realize it was an update until so many of them reported about it.

I agree but two of the pbn networks linked were penalized so I had nothing much to lose.

Look, I DO NOT believe there was a full Penguin update but.... if I were Google and based on what you guys are saying I'd say the AI may have made some SMALL adjustments doing something like this: give less link juice to low authority multi-niche (or changed niche) websites that were redesigned/dropped/expired in the last 18 months. This would effect people who bought public PBNs, or built a private PBN on a domain that they changed the topic/niche of. And even THIS is a stretch in my humble opinion. Seems equally likely that Google just busted a few PBN networks and the damage spread, or that the AI changed some sliders for judging certain niches. But I honestly do NOT think this was an actual "update" from Google. You have to keep in mind that the Google Brain AI changes tons of things on a daily basis to balance out the SERPS. So finding out any ONE cause to this pounding many of you took will be hard, it may be several factors you all have in common.

I disagree, I have two sites I used my private net with, good authority, relevant topical TF and they've both dropped (all pbn's are indexed still).

Then I have another site i've used just exact match links from a public network, low quality blog comments, 40%+ EM anchors. This site has gone +15 for the main keywords.

I agree but two of the pbn networks linked were penalized so I had nothing much to lose.

Dropped some positions on a few keywords that are reviews. Strange thing is that the stars (rich snippets) disappeared on the drop.

All expired, and a mixture. Some decent cloud hosting, some cheap shitty 5$ a year.

I actually believed Google when they said Penguin is now "granular" and "real-time." I don't think it has big huge "refreshes" like it used to. I think this was a genuine change in how the algorithm functions.

Still unclear what was changed. In my niche, if I had to guess I'd say they just made domain authority and domain trust more important. Doesn't seem to be the rule in other niches, though. And I do know of one exception in my niche, a very high-authority website that got clobbered, losing more than half of its traffic.

I lost (and this is the problem for many people) some keywords, but not ALL keywords, i'm in first page/position for many key, but I lost some keys so I think this is not penalization but only dance, and hope google will fix this asap

My site doesn't have any ads. Each post has over 1000 words, over 20+ of them are 3000 words+, there is no 400 - 500 words article. That assumption is just BS.
