Its an opportunity for others to make a great affiliate program. Since Amazon is stupid to cut its affiliate program incentives, another marketplace could counter this and force a switch of power. It's easy and fun to ride on the mistakes of the "elite" because they are fucking dumb thinking tiny mistakes don't tip the power at all. This tips the power BIG TIME.
I currently can't think of any shop that would be able to use that opportunity. Giving affiliate marketers the same percentages as Amazon while offering products as cheap as Amazon and convert as many visitors as Amazon is nearly impossible. They would have to offer ridiculous high fees to compensate the loss in conversion and that would destroy their profit margin.

Shutting down the affiliate program makes no sense so it's not going to happen. They want to profit as much as possible WHILE discouraging potential competitors and they know full well that by not letting anyone promote the product would mean they would lose the #1 asset they have which is market share (since people will be promoting products outside Amazon). Thus, they will still keep the aff program but this revised structure now makes so much sense especially since profit margins do differ per category.
You're right, they way they are going now is most likely the optimum for the them. I guess the changes to electronics where especially important for them, margins for sellers usually are really low.

Today is the first day of the new commisions so what you just said make no sense.
I don't think what he said doesn't make any sense. My earning today is far better than few days ago simply because I got a lot of sales from 10% commision rate item. $8.9 per item.

so I had a bunch of unshipped orders from February, does it mean I'll get paid according to the newer rates? If that is the case, it's really a shame.

OP
You need Amazon more than they need you.

A third of all your total posts are in this thread, suck it up buttercup.

Yes, any unshipped orders will have the new rates.

Obviously Amazon won't cry if I, as an individual will stop sending people to their site, but this is collective problem, it affects new affiliates and the more experienced as well.
It's just a shame that if you're in the wrong niche you will get punished and forced to change it. What I think is that this is a lesson for all that base their income solely on Amazon.
I don't like that Amazon doesn't have any real competitor and I say it again, you have to talk about things, the community needs to understand how Amazon works and operates and what risks it may pose in the future, before dedicating money and time to something that it is not worth it (this isn't a thread for those that have multiple income streams and money stability, it's about those that ask, from time to time, if and how should they open their Amazon site to make their first Internet money).

Roll with the punches and keep moving forward.

Amazon is still a good source of passive income, but not the only game in town ;-)

Those who are happy that their sites are in the 8% category, wait for some heavy competition as most of the affiliates are coming to your way.

I haven't used amazon for years due to their low commission rates....
