Which Keyword Difficulty Tool Is More Accurate ?

Which keyword difficulty tool do you recommend and why ?

So far we got Keyword Revealer, KWFinder, SEMRush KD, Long Tail Pro.

Each have their own algoritm to find "EASY" keyword and sometime the score differ widely among them.

So which one do you think is more accurate ? If possible with example keywords.

Hey ebiz101, as you rightly mentioned they all can have different results cause they are having different formulas implemented to count Keyword difficulty. Don't really know how to give example keywords cause for this you might need to create a project in each and every tool mentioned by you. There is one more nice tool that you can trust on, it is called Rank Tracker. It looks at the 10 top ranking pages for every term and analyzes all kinds of SEO stats about each page. The tool is there for more than 10 years on the market so i guess lots of users trust it as well. Cheers!

We suggest you keywordrevealer and kwfinder. But once you found the low difficulty keywords, just do some manual research. You have to check their backlinks metrics whether they are PBN, web2.0 or blog commenting. Use Ahref to find them.

I like aHrefs to do the job - you can check the potential links if you want too. If you find KD 0-10 and search volume more than 10k+ US then you are in right place

I'd recommend SEMrush or Moz Keyword Explorer. You can try the Moz one for free (2 free searches a day).

Ahrefs is interesting, but they base most of the competitive evaluation on links; ie "you'll need 10 links for X position". Which I don't think is very accurate when you consider all links are not created equal.

In my opinion they are all a load of crap when it comes to keyword competition analysis. None of them give you the opportunity to adjust their algos to your own ability/method.

For example, a guy not building any backlings, a guy using manual outreach and a guy with an established xxxx domain PBN all have different definitions of low comp.

kwfinder is so good, I even got me a subscription for it

however (!) if you dont "Tier"check the top10 for "easy" KWs and have some experience of metrics, you are doomed.

Thanks guys for all your recommendation.. For SEMrush I often got message like "keyword is not on google database" or something.. Ahrefs I only use it to find backlinks.. I'll take a look at their keyword difficulty tool..

That's true.. like KeywordRevealer give more weight to PA than other metrics.. so if the top 10 got low PA (mostly 1) although the DA are extremely high they tend to classify this as easy keyword.. as you can see many of the top 10 "easy" keyword by keywordrevealer are big ecommerce website where they have high DA and PA of 1 (like mostly youtube page)..

SEMrush is a joke for the KD tool; for one of my sites it shows everything as 85 when its actually anywhere from 7-14 in Ahrefs

That's another thing, so many of them use Moz metrics, the Moz crawler misses so much! Even with the free trials to Moz, Majestic and AHRefs you can see they are lagging behind.

It's very hard for any keyword research tool to find the perfect formula for Keyword SEO difficulty (I should know since i launched the new tool in my signature), because they usually use one formula/algorithm for all queries and all type of keywords.

But if you have done keyword research for some time, you know that depending on the type of queries you use, there are nuances to how you evaluate your competition. An ecommerce based keyword, will be evaluated different from an informational keyword, and you evaluate a seasonal keyword different than just looking at the seo metrics.

That's why I think the best way is to look at the top 10 results individually when you make your evaluation, and not rely just on Keyword Difficulty score to filter through a bunch of keywords, as they may miss something.

I would have agreed to this, but not anymore. The site is down again and they say its cos of Moz. When every other site including moz is working fine.

I used to use Semrush to find keywords, LTP to sort them, Ahrefs, Majestic and MOZ to check backlinks

Now, Ahrefs is the only tool I use for anything

They are all relative to the algorithms they use to calculate. Typically the companies with the most available data will offer the best option. This means usually the companies with the most expensive products. LTP used to work well, but I jumped shift with the change in adwords policies. Now I use SemRush and love their service, but it's a whole lot more than just KW Difficulty.

If money is an issue, just find something cheap and know that you shouldn't use it as anything other than a first-pass filter for making manual analysis easier.

If money isn't as much of an issue, go with a big name like SemRush or Ahrefs.

If money isn't an issue at all, tack on Moz and Majestic to Semrush and Ahrefs to get all the data and perspectives as you can.

Don't ever think a tool will be able to catch every possible keyword, or be able to give you an entire perspective of a keyword. Use your head and profit.
