How accurate is Alexa ranking?

Hey Guys,

How accurate is Alexa ranking? and how does it work? Someone told me it only basis its analytics from sites with alexa plug-ins installed in its browser. I think this is a complete BS, I see ranking do not match our Google Analytics. However, I do see that it gets updated periodically, and its too off from our current numbers. on GA.

Honestly, I used to think that...but I noticed it gets updated and close to accurate on our GA...off by small margin.

Alexa ranking algorithm is different than google. google keep changing its algorithm to overcome scam. Alexa is outdated and its trust level has lower but still we can't avoid Alexa ranking and we can see some upgrade too.

Alexa is somewhat close to reality, but I wouldn't consider it as analytics source
Alexa rank checked by ad networks when you joining them as a publisher, to check if the stats you say are true.

If its the Amazon thing I am thinking of then I think they get there data from people using the Alexa tool bar. It records what the small sample size of people with the tool bar or plugin installed visit and then presents those domains in the way it does.

Personally, I think Alexa is an excellent source for finding new traffic leaking or parasite sources.

I wouldnt trust it. you can see where competitors are getting traffic but the rank can be bought on here or fiverr with alexa traffic it'll go too your normal rank when you stop but i bet there are some who blast it often.
