I love the community here. It's still as vibrant as it was years ago..I am wondering if there is a slack or IRC channel..

P.S. sorry if this is a repeated question. I am not sure how to find out if it's been asked before..

The official BHW IRC channel was abandoned/shut down a while ago.

As opposed to creating a slack for BHW, I'd encourage you to share and chat here as there are a multitude of subforums in which you can start a conversation with like minded people.

First, by no means I meant a slack channel to abandon BHW. Having a slack or irc channel won't stop me from being engaged here.
I just think that forum is great tfor lengthy explanatory posts, service and all that. But for chatting I think IRC or slack would be be better..
Do you know by any chance why slack/irc was shutdown?

I will go with BTB's advice.

You will get a detailed info and a broad discussion over interesting topics shared here. I think most of the members here are not that much active on IRC.

I have a Slack team set up somewhere. Let me see if I can grab the URL.

EDIT: Oh, the thread was in Jr. VIP. I feel like I probably did that for a reason...

Been missing IRC recently myself, especially over Christmas when I had some down time. Although I'd been mostly idling the main rooms the past year, chatting via PM with guys that are not really on the forum is something I miss. Spent like 5 years on the bhw IRC channel, was surprised and sad to see it just go.

I know some guys set up an unofficial bhw channel on dalnet (I think dalnet), I visited once but it wasn't the same.

I wasn't aware that the IRC channel was shut down, good to know. I visited only a couple of times though.

Whatever the reason was, being in a channel with people talking about anything would be great anyway. Especially for introverts like some of us. I do love forums but I find it extremely difficult to socialize here. Some people perceive this place as a full-time job, and then go relax and socialize. And some perceive this forum as a place to socialize and relax, and if you are one of the latters you will understand what I am talking about. It is hard to connect with like-minded people.

There's an active IRC which gets most of it's users from hackernews, #startups on freenode.
Any idea how to access it? I have been trying since yesterday it won't let me..It gives an error message that i need to be identified with services.

You have to register a username, then it sends a confirmation email, then you login, all through the server.
