Introduction
In this journey I'm going to make a semi authority Amazon site out of an expired domain. I already snagged an expired domain to build the site on. The site itself has pretty good metrics DA30, PA 40. All niche relevant backlinks from real sites. The old site was a physical store that I rebranded and repurposed it into a review site. One of the largest challenges I'm dealing with is the site targets a really broad umbrella niche and I'm trying to create pages that rank for targeted keywords.

So as an unrelated example: the site targets sports in general (it doesn't), and I'm trying to talk about really specific things like basketball gloves.

Microniche Silos
So to create some ranking power I'm trying to create microniche silos related to the general theme, but all enclosed with a few articles that interlink. So if we go with the example of sports:

Sports (Main niche)

-Basketball (Microniche Silo)
---Basketball Pillar main article
---Basketball Articles ~x5 interlinked

-Baseball (Another Silo
---Baseball Pillar Article
---Baseball Keyword articles ~x5 interlinked

Essentially I'm trying to work on one silo, then once it's completed I'll build a new silo and just keep working my way through until I find myself with a fully utilized site. In all honesty the domain name I got forces it to be this way and the scope is getting to me now hehe. I'm kind of scattered finding keywords in multiple silos and I need to focus up and finish the ones I have before bouncing into new areas. In a few weeks once I get out of the cash slump of the holidays, I'll start outsourcing content.

Spreading The Juice - Ew
All of the links to the expired domain either point to unusable pages (url.com/storehours) or the main page, so I can't really use any of these extra pages for easy G ranks, so I just redirected all nonexistant pages to the main URL. As it stands I just have the main page linking directly to some articles with relevant contextual links from a home page article. Those links virtually spread to all the other pages in the site. But once I start getting actual silos done, I'm going to change it from an intro article format to a page that links to all the subniche pillars with a quick description. All to get that sexy domain PA to the inner pages.

I've heard that once you hit a certain point and as long as you're keeping your subniche silos seperate from each other they will boost rankings with relevance. My Baseball pages wont link to my basketball pages. I'm also sending links to my articles, mostly just nofollow blog posts. Right now I just want to get content set up, and get a few silos before I start pumping it.

What's in an article
For the most part I'm trying to figure out how to write amazon articles. I'm playing around with different styles. I've got the generic specific product reviews and best of articles with direct affiliate links. I'm also trying a method where I just do a buying guide that explains how specifications for purchasing the product work. For the buying guide I just threw in one of those native ads at the end which suggests a bunch of products.

How's the Site Ranking
As an expired domain the site seems to have some ranking boosts. It's really noticeable in long tails. I'll write an article on baseball bats, and it will start ranking for something like Left handed bats and it gets a better position with that than the keyword I'm targeting. This is kind of why I'm working on buying guides instead of specific product reviews. It snags so many more LSI.

As far as actual rankings, without any backlinks standalone articles pop up around pos. 40-60. I have a sneaking suspicion that once I complete a silo everything in that silo will bump up. I also know I have to send some backlinks to the pages. I've been cannibalizing tangentially related amazon affiliate sites for backlinks. Mostly just finding unuseable PBNs, forums and blogs that allow for commenting. The Domain Authority is really good, the only challenge is bumping the page authority of the inner articles.

I'm getting about 5 random visitors a day, Analytics say they're coming from search, but it's not telling the terms, and some are from previous backlinks of people looking from the old store. So far nothing of note as nobody is getting to amazon.

Just a quick update:
No earnings as of yet
No real traffic as of yet
Pillar articles are up, ranking around 25-30.
Getting some backlink services up and running. Expecting completion by next week, and bumps in the next month.
Grabbing Semrush next week. Starting some hardcore kw research.
Hold pattern for the next week.

a very nice and detailed journey. my question is what tools did you used to check if the domain you purchased is not penalized?

Can't believe noone commented.

Great plan! I am also building an affiliate site in a great niche. (outsourced everything, make money work for you ;) )
Want to add me on Skype to talk a bit about our sites, sometime?

Good luck!

I went with a PBN broker and just repurposed one of their PBNs with a brandable URL as a moneysite. The site was hosted and running with its old archived website. The site itself was searchable in Google (and ranking well within the niche related pages) so I knew it was indexed. The brokers did a good job and I just did the generic spam check to see if it was a good site.

Definitely! I'll PM my skype.

Very interesting journey. I will keep popping in every now and then to see how you progress.

How much did you pay for that expired domain if you don't mind me asking? Also, could you let me know the broker you purchased from? (PM me if you want)

Add me as well, I started out with a fresh domain though rather than purchase an expired domain like you. Would love it if you can give me more perspective on your end and I can share mine :D

Good luck with your journey!

Quick update, found a nich relevant keyword cluster. About 50k ms, all buyer intent, bunch of longtails with probably another 5-8k ms. Ahrefs kw difficulty 0-3 for all of them. Youtube vids and unrelated sites in pretty much every search, and an average of 1 page in top 10 with a max of like 5 backlinks. Pretty much nothing related, and all of it is garbage. A completely untouched niche. A real S rank keyword for traffic. Immediately halting all other projects on the site to build a silo on this.
