I've read a lot about dropshipping, and found it interesting, but so far no one has been able to respond to a basic question: why the hell do people buy things at a markup, when they could order directly from the source (aliexpress, for example)?

Maybe this could have worked in the early days of the internet, but now? What's keeping them from looking from the same product on google? Aliexpress is almost always on the first page.

As I do not want to spend money on a pointless venture, can someone kindly explain me how can this work? I can't wrap my head around it.

A lot people are making crazy money with dropshipping..so yeah it works..

I can believe that, but... why? Just an overabundance of clueless customers?
just be honest and answer the question yourself, did you ever used aliexpress/baba before you have read into dropshipping or chinese products in general? I guess no... and there is your answer

Well, as a routine I use price comparison tools every time I buy something.

No, dropshipping is same as any other physical product business. Let me put it this way, we buy iPhones for $1k when we know that Apple outsources it for a fraction of the cost. Same thing applies for dropshipping.

Bro, Aliexpress has freakin cheap products but unfortunately 70% of people dont go there to find their products.

it works because regular people dont waste entire day searching just to save $1 or so. It makes perfect sense, even our bhw members fail to use search, asking answered questions every hour for last 10 years. Laziness is permanent human trait.

Most people dont know about aliexpress, especially people on facebook, some people are computer retarded.

No it doesn't work, go back to instagram + ogads.

Because they don't know the source ;)

You probably buy things at a markup too. Do you purchase items directly from your local supermarket or do you individually go through their suppliers to get your goods at a cheaper price?

i think the real question is, if u promote a product or a niche product, how do u outbeat the existing big brands name e.g. amazon product page or some other real big player there with ur website in white / grey / black SEO?

I don't think you can equate it with Apple's case. The outsourcing agencies cannot give you the brand identity that Apple provides, which is the perhaps the most essential point on deciding to buy an Apple product.

You do get sort of a brand identity when doing dropshipping with Aliexpress. For example let's say you are selling a Harry Potter product, you get the whole Harry Potter brand backing you up. Yes, no where near Apple but the idea is pretty much the same in a much smaller way.

Originally, the idea of dropshipping was to make use and [abuse] Amazon prime two day shipping. Buyers buy because of the fast shipping and thus don't mind the slight higher pricing. For those that dropship from Aliexpress, it was simply because of the pricing. Well, some buyer just don't feel comfortable buying from a seller with a name of Alibaba (and the fourty thieves? ) Thus it works as you have a good rep on ebay/amazon that gives you certain authority to convince buyer.

People who make money with this have great deal of experience . They have been working in this for years,so don't expect to make money soon.

Most of the items listed on Aliexpress are Chinese duplicates. I've seen poeple sell cheap soccer jerseys from Aliexpress and getting their stores shut once companies like Nike and Adidas have spotted them. Harry Potter is registered under Warner Bros. who are making millions from these fan stuff. Do you think you get a Warner Bros. product from Aliexpress?

I don't think it's wise to build a dropshipping business based on trademarked items
