How to research keyword competition?

I know this is really a nob question. I am trying to get some insight about how to find out competition on a keyword? Can anyone help me?

Well, there are many tools available to check the keyword competition (keyword tool, spyfu, nichewatch, moz and many other) and you can also check it from Google.
