OK, so from a code perspective this seems like it would be a super easy fix.

Why? So it would be easier to find the better threads that have been buried by time - things like BS Your Way To Internet Riches - because quite frankly, a lot of the more 'ground-breaking' stuff tends to be older - that is, we don't seem to see that much innovation in the forum anymore. I mean how many rehashes of YouTube + CPA are people going to write?

Now that's a different problem that I'm not going to go into, but being able to rank threads by how many thanks they have received might be a good way to filter for the truly golden ones.

I get why you suggested this, though I think it's a bad idea for the following reasons:
  1. It would spawn a new "black market" service over Skype of selling "likes" in order to boost a post to the front page (you know, kind of like that Reddit issue). Right now, the only value likes have on BHW is stroking the ego of the poster, and it's better if it stays that way.
  2. Due to the aforementioned issue, bot accounts would flood BHW at an alarming rate in order to boost posts to the top. Even if we ban them, their thanks will remain, meaning the bot accounts will have served their purpose.
  3. New members would grow frustrated over the fact that their questions aren't being answered because their threads hardly have any visibility. Yeah, the questions can be annoying and repetitive, but those new members will eventually turn into respected senior members.
  4. Similar to the above, new threads wouldn't have as much visibility. Everyone would just flock to the same threads day in and day out. It'll get old fast.
  5. Sorting threads by thanks received would cause threads like this abomination to be at the top.
What would probably be better is a "Best of BHW" section that contains these high-thanked old threads. I would've said to sticky them to the top of the sections they're posted in, but some of those threads may contain outdated information.

What about the option only works in sections with a certain time frame limit (like last 6 months only) not overall or marketplace threads that should come very handy don't you think?
I suppose it would depend on the section, but then problems 1, 2, 3, and 4 would still be an issue. Additionally, OP suggested this so that classic BHW threads like BS Your Way To Internet Riches don't get buried by time. If there's a timeframe, it just defeats the purpose of OP's suggestion.

The 1,2,3,4 will be issue only when the default is sorted by thanks but we are talking about a sorting option so the section will remain the same as they are right now but we can sort the threads by thanks. About the timeless classics, we do have to consider a different section like you suggested earlier.

Oh, you know what, I misconstrued your other post then. Yeah, the option to sort threads by thank count sounds like a better suggestion.

No, I just added that in using the Inspect Element tool in order to show you what it could look like if that feature were implemented on the forum.

The current sorting feature looks the same for you as it does for me.
