Why do you even need such complicated calculations? It's straight up easy math. How much did you buy your PC, compared to how much the VPS cost each month using the same spec x12 months, is enough to tell that VPS for long term is going to cost more.
The average PC is 300$ for a core i3 8GB. And 350$ for 16GB. If you trust 2nd hand parts, it can be had even cheaper.
The average cost of 4 core 8gb is 25$ and so 1 year = 300$ (and mind you, not every reseller is selling you true cores. They may have just given you the HT not core, and you can't always abuse it 100% on all cores. True cores is double the price. Because if they have given you true cores, and the CPU is 12 core, they can only fit in 3 users, so why would they undersell?
The real cost is not the GB sold, as ram is generally cheap (although some providers tend to think ram is good justification for overpricing). It should be measured by the CPU core, that's the most important aspect of running any bot.
i would never run this at home. chances of getting caught are way too high and losing all hardware after constant use.

Personally I have a NAS setup to automatically back-up my files etc, but I have only ever had one drive fail on me, and that was a 1tb HDDInteresting thread.
Well, if you run things on your own machine, you would need another machine to hold the backups incase of a HDD failure on your main one. Thats just one thing that you need other the machine itself.
There are lot of other things that you would need to do it reliably, which is why we have hosting firms, because people found it is cheap that way for a perfect setup.

My computer uses around 650 of my 800Even running 5 VPSs on a machine like you want to do, is not going to draw close to 600 watts. Under full load the system is going to be using at most 300 watts.
Same goes for me. I have around 10mbps connection in my country but in my area for 10mbps without FUP I will have to pay around $80-$100 PM so best would be to go for a VPS.The problem for me is not the machine but the internet. I can't get 1gbps in my country.
I would say that, over the course of a year, my area sees 2-3 power cuts of no more than 48 hours, this equates to a 98.36% uptime.
Stuff not running for those outages more than cover costs of boxes for some people. There are many different reasons to use VPS/Dedi's:
- Slower Internet Speeds/Stability Issues
- The Odd Power Cut/Blackout (UPS doesn't help you if ISP infrastructure is out too)
- Travel to Different Countries or Move Often
- Caps on outgoing Bandwidth from ISP
- ISP warns you for "unusual/malware activity" crawling/scraping/using proxies to run massive amounts of automated queries
- Easily scalable or Expendable With No Big Commitments or Up Front Investments
- Apt/Home Space Limitations
.... and a bunch of other reasons listed in the thread, it may not make sense for you but everyone has a unique situation. Personally I love being able to grab a bag, passport; roll to the airport in the drop of a hat & manage my stuff from anywhere.
