I have a media site which I am trying to rank for several keywords. So far I have been doing it like this ( example )
mymediasite. com/keyword
/keyword is not an inner page but a category where the slug is changed accordingly ( it is the keyword) and I list all of the articles on the page that are in the same category. I am getting results the way I do it but my question is would Google value more if I create an inner page with the keyword I am ranking for or is this with the category and changed slug ok and there is no difference in "value' for Google.

No 'value' especially if it is not a page and just category name.
I am ranking for the keyword I am using. Google indexed the category - mediasite. com/category

Ideally this would be good if you keep the category name as keyword and page name as sub keyword.
Also the url format should be mydomain.com/category/pagename.html
then it will cover keyword as well sub keyword for internal pages
Also google index the category page. So if you have all relevant articles related to that category page, then that category itself will start ranking for that keyword

Basically, my question is what of these things will rank better:
mediasite.com/category ( the slug being changed accordingly ) and a blog module which lists all the posts of that category
or mediasite.com/inner-page ( inner-page being the keyword ) and a blog module with category list on it...
