Hi, lately I see that there are many bhw members with a "Banned" mark.. what are the main ways how to get there?

.. the question can be classified as reversed engineering - look, I tend not to follow the strict rules here and there (occasionally) as I 100% believe that too much censorship and rules are harmful to any forum.. and for this reason would like to know what are the lines that should never be crossed.

.. :) I can live with a 30 day ban... well, even with a 90 day one (if there is one).. but lifetime ban? .. brrr....

serious question,
tx

p.s. .. plus - mostly I don't read rules/tos (as most users) and just follow the common sence (well, no selling threads are allowed, I know that).

Hi,

So, basically from what I've seen is previously banned users, attempting to buy out a higher level membership, selling outside the marketplace, attempting to spam/scam someone on the forum, messaging different mods for different answers to a question, and having one too many infractions.

this looks like you are fishing to find out what you can and cannot get away with ;)

Contrary to popular belief, it's really not that easy to get permanently banned here. People most at risk of being banned are repeat offenders or people posting grossly abusive or offensive comments. Even then, a first offence hardly ever results in a permanent ban. Other than that, brand new members who overwhelmingly post spam, affiliate links or promotional threads are often banned as this is most likely a bot.

The number one rule is: don't be a dick and don't try to leech off your fellow members. Obviously, follow the rest of the rules but slight or unknowing breaches will result in a warning or infraction explaining exactly what you did to break the rules. As long as you take heed of them and wait for the warning to expire, you're good. Virtually all our senior members have had the odd warning here or there - it's just part of becoming the community, don't take it personally.

Easy way to make sure you are golden is don't be a dick and don't sell outside of the marketplace.

That covers about 93.4% of the rules.

Should you get a warning, ask the Mod what you did so you don't do it again and apologize.

Anything beyond that you need to read the ToS.

Edit: Posted at the same time as @Apricot. Look up for a more detailed explaination.

got it - no selling.. except if I pay for listing..

... gl with explaining the meaning "don't be a dick" - a suggestion like that already clearly shows who and what is the person who suggests that.

tx - thread can be closed.

If you got banned just get new paypal account and new ip address ... and join BHW again .... i got banned in 2010 for scamming issue ... and joined again , and as you see mods didn't catch me ....

Do we need to talk about what should stay inside your head and what shouldn't?

:D not all the badasses are gone! :) it is uber-cool to see that. .. I'm actually gradually moving over to reddit - less rules and people don't get offended that easily there.

You have about a .001% chance of getting banned as you stay inside the lines 99.9% of the time and the very few times you walk outside you communicate and square things up.

+ You're not a dick.

Don't be a dick is probably the most helpful advice you can receive but if you need a more detailed explanation: treat other people the way you'd like to be treated. Have a look at some of the posts of our banned members and you'll see some great examples of dickishness.
