Banned on Upwork for Asking for PayPal Payment

Hi,

A few months ago I got banned on upwork, and it felt like getting tossed out of the garden of Eden .

I didn't even mean to. I'm one of those people who don't read ToS... and I just needed my client's money ASAP, so I sent a message via their message system to pay by PayPal.

They banned, said no recourse. (But they still paid me for the jobs .)

Problem is I have all my info on my account, like SSN and RL name. So idgaf about the account itself... but I mean I can't open a new one with my own RL info...

What should I do? Why can't they forgive? (and I don't want to use my relatives' info.)

What exactly is the question?
If they have all your real details then you need to open a new account with new/other details or use a different platform.

u want me to put in a fake ssn? u make it sound like it's easy, but it's not? You're saying I have to commit ID fraud lol. cuz they do submit all that stuff to the IRS... and that ain't no joke no more brah

Did you already speak to the support? They unbanned me in a similar case after I told them I wouldn't do that again.

Oh they did? Yeah I did speak to them but didn't tell them I wasn't going to do it again lol. I just assumed they meant what they said. I asked them if there was an opt-out fee to pay to get my account reinstated, but they said no.

So now I'm going to submit a support ticket saying I won't do it again thanks.

Probably a long shot, and maybe Upwork isn't worth all the groveling.

Well guys I contacted htem and they said after super careful review, I am permanently banned from upwork. Guess if you try to PayPal it, they see you as a huge huge threat.

On the flip side I could always change my SSN and make a new account . Cuz u know upwork is worth.

If you can find one to use, that is. You could always just buy an Upwork account. I'm pretty sure there are people on this forum who would sell one. Note: Be careful with that.

But why would they do that? Then they'll have to pay more taxes for no reason whenever I earn.

Do people really sell upwork accounts with real ssn... because it would be utterly dumb

Yeah, lol. I thought all they wanted was money... I mean I figured I could show my sincerity by offering cash. If you're trying to gett paid by PayPal it means you're trying to circumvent fees. So doing the opposite I thought would surprise them

If you are in the US you can get a Tax Payer Identification # and probably use that.

Totally legal as they are issued by the IRS.

I got mine banned last year.

Support did not help at all.

Luckily i had no money with them.

Wow thanks I didn't even know that. It like lets you get 2 chances for anywhere, if you get banned once, you can sign up with a dual ID # WOW

Luckily, when Upwork switched over by engulfing Elance and Odesk, they converted my profile but misspelt my first name? (Idk why they would... but anyway) and then I tried correcting it but they wanted me to upload a gov id which I was too lazy to do lol since everything was already set up with my SSN.

BUT THEIR MISTAKE IS MY TREASURE MUAHAHAHAH

The only way is to get a business entity tax ID... sigh

The only way is to get a business entity tax ID... sigh

So set up a business entity. It could be your name even as that is normal in many States and is cheap to do.

There is nothing that you can do. You should have read the TOS.
