Christmas Light Installers Journey

I'm starting a small business including myself and 6 of my closest friends/cousins. Ages 18-20, young and fit.

Mission is to create a network of local people that we could install and remove their christmas lights.

I will put flyers in the mailboxes pass out business cards and use instagram and maybe facebook to promote our services.

I've already set up followliker to follow and like people in selected locations.

Beginning of october I will pass out flyers and business cards.

Lets see how this goes, wish me luck!

I live in miami tons of prime real estate to work off of.

It's an interesting idea for a service as your costs are next to nothing and you can charge a good buck... hope it goes well for you.

Don't forget to advertise on the online classifieds, Facebook groups for the area and even put up a quick site so that people have an online reference for you.

A lot of the companies that offer that service up North have landscaping companies as well so they have a year round income.

Good luck with your new venture. Personally I would target paid ads over placing fliers. This way, you have targeted leads from people who are already looking for your services rather than spending money on a bunch of fliers that many people will likely throw out. Obviously you would gain some leads through the flier process though.

In addition to paid ads Facebook also has community groups for pretty much all geographic locations. Most of them will allow one business posting per week (you'd need to read their specific rules) and I have gained many leads in the past for clients using this method.

$4750? Someone pays you that much to install christmas decorations? :O

Just be careful going on roofs, especially if you get an older roof it's easy to cause leaks and I'm sure that would be a problem for you. Awesome idea though! Maybe even renting out decorations for different times of the year(Easter egg hunts, thanksgiving, 4 of july etc) would work too. Good luck!

We scoped it out as 7 days of work, 5 to install and 2 to remove. It's a 6000 Sq/ft house on the water, and they found us on craigslist.

Thank you, and yes if the house doesn't look safe to work on, we definitely won't do it, by no means do we "need" work, and this house is only a couple years old and has hatch roof access. Expanding to other holidays is definitely on the drawing board.

A tip from someone who has spent a lot of time on roofs. I would get some non slip shoes like what restraunt workers use. They are exeptional on roofs. In particular I would recommend shoes for crews. They have some shoes for around 35 bucks or so ... they normally have a deal where if you get more than one pair you get free shipping and with a google search you can find 25 percent off. Having everyone who will be installing getting a pair would be wise in my opinion. They are pretty insane for how well they make your feet "stick" to the roof. Even on steeper roofs that are older with loose gravel I have never had them feel like they would slip on me. Goodluck I know a lot of companies in my industry do this in the winter and I have considered it. That is an awesome job to land, How many lights do you think you will use, or how many feet of eves? I am curious how you bid out the job .. did you have a price per foot or anything like that to go off?
