For the initial audit, do you analyze the site for a variety of potential problems? For example, I just used some software to analyze my site. I ran a report that had listed some errors on it. I had a huge list of "Disallowed (X-Robots-Tag)" url restricted from indexing.

Is this part of your Step 1? I would assume that I should get any and all of these issues resolved before link building is to occur.
