Just like any type of addiction, being addicted to food is hard to overcome. Although not easy, it's perfectly possible to overcome food addiction on your own. It may sound a little weird, but this is the best way to deal with food addiction. You can actually use this method for any addiction:
Every time you feel the urge to eat fast food, say to yourself things like...
- ''I am addicted to fast food. The media is right about the fast food chains putting addictive stuff in my food. It's not my fault.''
- ''Yes, I do eat at KFC every day, but that's just a financial strategy to save some money. It's recession, you know.'
- ''I want to eat at Wendy's tonight. But that's probably just because I like fast food more than veggies.''
- ''I feel like I'm getting addicted to french fries.... Nah, ridiculous idea. Probably it's a placebo effect or something like that.''
- ''I need to eat fast food in order to function properly during the day. I don't want to risk losing my job.'
- ''I am extremely addicted to fast food. Maybe I don't really care about being healthy, but that's just a personal lifestyle choice.''
- ''I don't care about heart attacks. They are comparable with headaches, as I've heard.''
- ''I will start eating healthy tomorrow, even though I know that I say the same thing every day again.'' keep saying that every day.''
These sentences are just examples. It's important that the things you say to yourself are your
real thoughts. They have to be your
actual thoughts that make get fast food.
EVERY TIME you feel the urge to eat fast food, you have to confront yourself with your addiction, embarress your thoughts. Notice how ridiculous it is to be addicted to something. If you do this as much as possible, you will ealize you have the power to change anything you want in your life.
- When you're at home and you feel even the slightest urge to eat fast food, go to a mirror. Look yourself in your eyes and say what you think. Keep looking yourself in the eyes. Keep saying the thoughts that make you want to eat fast food.
- If you're not at home, ''say'' your thoughts in your mind.
Become aware of the thoughts that make you want to eat fast food. They are not rational. Come on, say for yourself, why wouldn't you be able to eat healthy? Why do those thoughts make you eat fast food every time again? Those thoughts are toxic. They keep you addicted. Basically, those thoughts
are the addiction. You need to get rid of them in order to overcome any addiction. You have to accept that you're addicted. Acceptance is easy, all you have to do is just
not deny the fact that you're addicted. You can not start overcoming addiction without acceptance. Realize that
you are the ONLY person that
can and
will help you. Not because other people don't WANT to help you, but because they CAN'T help you. You're on your own. Nobody but YOU can help you overcome your addiction. Decide to start eating healthy. Decide to start today. And don't just decide to start today, but actually START TODAY. Tomorrow may be too late. Today's the only day you can work with, so start today.
Don't do it for the ''present you''. Do it for the ''you'' in the future. He will be thankful. You will be thankful.
Hopefully, this post has helped anyone struggling with any type of addiction. I will be glad If I help just one person, even if I help just
a little bit, because ''a little bit'' is all I can do.
To the brave people that have decided to take control again, I would like to say this:
As long as your desire to overcome addiction is bigger than your urge, you'll overcome addiction. You don't need to see a specialist. You need to see
yourself. You don't need a doctor telling you overweight is dangerious. You need to hear it from
yourself. If you believe in yourself, I'm sure
you can overcome addiction. You won't succeed because
you can, but because
you must. Good luck!
