301 Redirect - Something I'm quite confused about

I've been planning to try 301 redirects for quite a while now and a few days ago I managed to gather a decent amount of money just for that purpose.

Now, there's still one thing I can not totally understand about 301 redirects - and yes, I used the search function and I've read around 20 threads but I still can't understand this:

If I find some good expired domains that are not indexed by google anymore can I just simply buy them and then 301 redirect those expired domains to my Money Site via the cpanel of my registrar [namecheap has this option] and then send some backlinks to the expired domain - would this work?

Or do I have to buy the expired domain, host it, bring back its old content, send backlinks, get it indexed and then 301 redirect it?

The second would be really time consuming (I know, I'm a bit lazy) and I still don't understand if that's actually needed or not?

I'm sorry for the idiotic questions, it's my first time trying SEO, been thinking of trying it for more than 2 years but never had the courage and the will to do it, focused on other traffic sources instead.

ps: I'm trying to rank a kw with 18k MS and very low competition - I'm not interested in long term rankins because with the type of sites I'm trying to rank you get penalised sooner rather than later, all I want to do is churn&burn.

Edit: It looks like they're just blackhat Russian links? I'm guessing it's a good idea for churn-and-burn sites?

Once again, sorry for the idiotic questions, I'm just trying to make sure that I don't scew it up at my first attempt.

I understand the confusion. You must understand that the domain you are going to redirect is not meant to be ranked (although it might if you post more content and build links to it) so you don't need very engaging content nor do you need thousands of words of it.

Having a relevant title on the homepage, a few optimized headings in a content that is anywhere between 400-1000 words is enough. I do this with my PBN domains and they automatically start rankings for long tails at 30ish positions most of the time. When they do, i know i have made them relevant enough.

Don't use content spinning and curating tools though. You can get a decent 500 words article for under $5.

What hosting do you recommend for the 2 week period? Something like cloudflare or Incapsula?

It will leave a DNS footprint in the history so I'd like to diversify.

A lot of false assumptions there.

You have to understand how Google crawlers work.

1. A bit.ly buffer won't change anything. Google is intelligent; it can read HTTPS result code & redirection. You cannot avoid a penalty just by putting a bitly shorterner inbetween
2. 301 has been made for people who either buy a website or a company, or change website and want to redirect all the traffic to their actual website.

Based on those things. Either you get a niche-relevant domain and you 301 it directly. The result will be good. It means that all the links that went to the domain you bought, are now linking to your site, DIRECTLY in the eyes of google. Which means all the anchors the old site had, will now be on your backlinking profile. So if the site is niche relevant, it can be a big advantage.

The other case scenario, is if the domain is irrelevant. In this case I would advise you to recreate a website, put some relevant content on it, and re create backlinks on it. Those backlinks need to be ultra relevant because once your have to 301 the domain, it will have an impact on the backlink profile of your MS.


On the number of 301 you can do. A lot of theory, but at the end it's just common sense. There's no limits to the number of 301 you can do to your MS if those expired domains are niche relevant. If they are not, limit them, because a lot of backlinks from different niche & with unrelated anchors might trigger red flag for Google.

Never used cloudflare or incapsula. Since i work with a lot of PBN domains, i have around 15 servers with lots of dedicated ip addresses.

For 5 domains, just make sure to not have them on a single ip. Apart from that you can either have them on 5 different shared hosts or you could buy a server with ips as a future investment.

Depends where you set up your redirect -> HTaccess (need hosting) Vs registrar (doesnt need hosting)
