What the Hell is a "Lens" and Why You should Make One On Squidoo

Lenses are great for backlinks because after the little google slap they are making a comeback. They still get ranked pretty quick, do a little socail bookmarking and you are good to go. I have a few lenses and lately Yahoo is loving them. If your content is good people will click where you want them to so even though there is other stuff to distract them it usually doesn't. You can bang out a lense in no time and they are free so why not see how it works. I did well with Gambling lenses until they banned them but my conversion was really good with minimal traffic.

They worked really well especially with Netscape story submits ... But Netcscape put the end to that... but for a while there people where making lenses like mad men.

I was reading about the difference in opinion over the google slap real or not when using squidoo it really is no different than other page/lens or whatever you want to call it, you still have to optimize it, you still have to start and maintain a linking campaign and when you do l expect you'll find your lens back on the coverted first page, you can't expect them to be successful without any work. regards nicho

I agree and I do that w/ each lens. How do you think I rocked 1st page? Good original content, kw optimized & links to/from authority sites. Over time they will rank better (one has returned to #1 on Google out of 800+ thousand pages).

Interesting points..... I have to agree about Squidoo's Weight being reduced, matter of fact it's happening to social bookmarking / social media sites EVERYWHERE due to the higher volumes of mass spam marketing techniques, eventually they will be labeled along with link farms, FFA's, Web Rings, Etc.. in the engines & pass NO positive weight at all....

Time will tell though, for now they are still a good source... no telling how much longer...

I do agree the link juice from those sources are losing it's luster compared to a few years ago.

squidoo is the best place for the link & keyword spamming for the last few months ago, google just love it and you will easily get high SERP even for the highly competitive keywords...

but that day has gone...

google has changed their algorithm and flag any new lens created. you still need to gain backlink and times to get high SERP.

Actually it takes very little effort to get that trust. I have lens's showing up in the serps on page one 2 days later (and staying there). Just takes minimal effort.

Actually a little link love to any squiddo lens can catapualt your rankings inside squidoo as well. The money sucks - but if you can get your lens's under the 2k ranking it's worth about 5 bucks a month.

For the 20 minutes it takes to make a decent lens, and the 30 minutes to promote it it's worth it by the time you add in the affiliate commissions.

I haven't been here long enough to post a link yet - but I put up a plan of what we do with squidoo and wordpress mu on the blackhat-whitehat.com site.

It's working like a charm (and has been for some time). Google slapping the lens's has barely affected us. Each lens is worth a few bucks a month from squidoo and anywhere from 10 to 1000 dollars in commission every month.

Add in the fact that I can just pop in rss feeds that are mixed in from my other sites and it's worth the time even if it is all done manually.

Traffic to the squidoo was reduce to about 25% of what it was for about two months. It has come back to near normal levels now. It is not as good as it once was but I can rank on the big three and bring in easy aff income.

I did a lens on my weight loss plans. It was real, lots of good content and they shut me down after only 8 hits because somebody complained that it was spam. I protested but to no avail. Right now I've got a good hate affair going with Squidoo.

I still get some good traficc with my lenses. I did pretty good with online gambling but they put a stop to those. The spam filters they have can be strict but I think they are still worth the time. Yahoo seems to be loving my lenses since the google Slap as well.

Guys both hubpages and suidoo are still working and working well, my tips is to forget trying to use them both for getting indexed and without giving the whole show away you should pick a niche , then research all of the tags/keywords that already exisit on google then use the same hot tags in your hubpges and squidoo lens.

Find the hot hubs you'll find you'll get loads of traffic targeted traffic frim within hubpages directly to your own hubpage curtesy of youlisting the hot tagsin your hub do the same for squiddo.

if they are are bout great tags then produce a set of hubs or lens intightly themed hubs and lens to ensure you have covered all of the tags/keywords, it works like a charm.

you get traffic from the tags and from google and you'll also get great backlinks as well.

flipping squidoo lens can be also a good source of income! i have seen some lenses beeing sold for $150 each! thats a lot of cash for something you make in 2 or 3 hours ( not counting the promotion )

I'm reading this thread because the first 3 in the Google SERP's for a keyword I was researching were all Squidoo lenses. I had never even heard of Squidoo before so I'm playing catchup now.
