Reddit users can be very friendly but they're not your usual audience. If they feel like you're taking advantage of them it's time to say bye bye. Just play it smart.

For youtube videos, it depends. Things can get buried quick on the larger subreddits so its a good idea to at least test an upvoting service. It's something that I am only just experimenting with but if you can get a hit then the traffic that you can drive to your videos is huge.
