Anyone Autoposting Content to Free Wordpress.com-Hosted Sites?

I'm trying to find an effective way to post content, ideally via external script, to a wordpress.com-hosted, free account. To clarify—these are not self-hosted Wordpress installations but, rather, sites that resemble mycoolsitename.wordpress.com.

I'm not really looking for a piece of software per se, just hoping someone would be kind enough to share their general approach for this.

I'm familiar with the wordpress XML-RPC API, but am under the impression that it is now disabled for free accounts hosted under the wordpress.com domain name.

Ideally, I'd like to accomplish this with Python, as that is what I am most-comfortable working with.

Any help would be greatly-appreciated

One question though, how do you handle setting the featured image?

the documentation didn't clearly state, and I can't seem to find much in the Wordpress.com forums regarding that either. I've seen the add images and galleries, but no actual featured image.

That would be crucial to my success I feel

Depends on your theme (I'm using mythemeshop) it sets the featured image automatically once you attached the image on the email.

You can use Jetpacks plugin as well. It has post by email function with less setup.

Add plugin that can auto generate featured thumb. Not sure which one working on free wordpress.com. Try yourself.

The issue is that I am trying to accomplish this with free, Wordpress.com-hosted sites, not self-hosted Wordpress sites. Plugins aren't able to be used for Wordpress.com-hosted free sites.
