Cloaking on FB is not that simple so if you are going to go that route plan on a lot of testing and expect to lose domains and accounts in the process.

Without going into detail that is private info, FB does a lot of different things when it comes to checking a URL and your regular run of the mill cloaking process will not cut it. That I am 100% positive about.

So cloaking is currently more or less the only solution to the link issue which the majority of us are experiencing?

Yes, cloak with a clean domain using some reputable website as the safe page and your URLs are going to stick much longer.

No, it is probably not the solution for most unless you are up to how FB checks to see if you are cloaking.
What does work though is using a whole bunch of different URLs, with the content, images and files all different from one another.
