Using 301 redirect to rank a new domain?

My new domain is probably has been put to the sandbox waiting period.

Now I am about to have a high authority expired domain delivered. So my thinink is: instead of using it for a PBN, I would 301 redirect it to the new domain.

Anyone has previous experience with this?

I'd be very careful with a 301s, especially if the domain isn't/wasn't topically related. One won't hurt, but be picky.

I have just done that.
Both domains were in the "health" niche.
I redirected the high authority expired domain to the new domain.
It took about 3 to 4 weeks to pass on the DA to the new domain, but it did work well in this case.

But as Starki says, be picky, and be sure they are both in the same category/niche.

You can do a 301 redirect. But niche should be same.

Google is getting smarter so definitely aim for expired domains that are in your niche.

I would personally do two 301 redirects max to my site but that depends on your risk level.

The domain I am about to rank is about recipes (let say pancake recipes), but the domain I am about to receive will be about recipes in general. It should have great metrics though.

IF the domains are relatable and in same niche, you should waste no time pondering over 301. Do it now!

With a 301 permanent redirect instruction at your server level, the age, authority and reputation of your old website in Google. It is transferred to this new web address. If you have a very large and complex site, it could take a long time for Google to complete.

This time I removed the redirect after the DA improved on the new (redirected to) site.
It all appears to be fine, I removed the redirect 1 month ago.

Both sites now have decent DA. I will update if it all goes wrong, later.

This indeed is interesting. One would say that the authority, link juice and rankings will be removed with the 301 redirect.

Tried that in the past with an unrelated expired domain. Guess what happened? Nothing! Since yours is relevant, your results could be different, so go ahead.

Just to let you know, I checked both of the test domains, and the DA's is still at 11, and 13
and the index pages are at PA 16 and 19
Both of these were brand new domains (well about 3 or 4 months old) and the main redirected URL's were DA's 13 and 16 (and they still are)
But both were very related to the new domains.

I am about to test a DA 22, PA 34 domain and redirect it to a brand new domain (I have not purchased yet)
This one will only be semi-related.
As I want to test out how long this will take to transfer some juice, and how much juice it will (if any) send to the new domain.

I will let you know what happens.

Also to note, both the new domain and the DA 22 domain will be on separate servers in different countries.

For testing purposes I have just set up a 301 redirect from a DA 41, PA 51 domain. This is in the pet supplies/dog products niche.

I have redirected it to a DA 1, PA 1, new domain that is in the health niche.

Again on different servers in different countries.

Let's see what happens.

but I generally keep any 301 redirecting domains on different servers, away from the new money sites.

If it is niche related and used to rank for terms you are targeting it would be good to 301.
