Money Site w/ Expired Domain?

I've always built my money sites on fresh domains, but I've been wondering, would using an expired domain result in better and faster rankings than a brand new domain? (faster because it already has a link profile when it's set-up?)

I figure the age doesn't carry over since the domain has expired, but the links still carry quite a bit of power with them so it seems it'd be worth it to give up the freedom to name my own domains.

My main concern though is whether or not the fact that the domain comes with a preset anchor profile will make it more difficult for me to rank for the actual niche I want to rank for? For example, If my niche was in cell phones but the expired domain I want to use is based in televisions, could the TV anchors actually make ranking for cell phones harder?

I've also thought about attaching the expired domain as a 301 redirect to a fresh domain, could that be a better option? I'm ranking with PBNs anyway so it'd be a small switch to make from a PBN to 301.

Using an expired domain only works if you plan to resurrect the exact old URLs that the back links goto... otherwise a new domain is just as good. Using redirects kills a lot of the benefit right off the top. It might be a net gain, but suspect it will amount to very little advantage unless it is a kick ass premium domain with a large volume of backlinks.

Yes, this is true.

You should consider a good relevant backlinks, clean history and not spammy/abused when you want to use expired domain as your money site. You can do 301 redirect if it has same category on your money site.

Also check to see if the expired domain had some sort of ban from Google. Because if you 301 from it then the ban too carries on.
Also, in your example TV backlinks wouldn't make much sense if you were planning to make a cell phone site. But in the broad sense both of them come under electronics. So, my suggestion would be to resurrect the domain with old content and then make a separate section about your niche. But this would only make sense if both of them fall under the same broad niche i.e; electronics in your case.

I always tend to go for whatever seems to fit best for the project. Some projects would be better off with a brandable domain and others where that is less important you are better for an expired or auction domain where you can benefit from their history and backlink profile.

If you can find an expired domain that meets the branding needs of the domain or is niche relevant with a clean history then definitely go for that.
