Remember, use your head, don't expect everything to be perfect and plan on working to be successful as almost no business opportunity just pours cash into your hands without some elbow grease.

Hey OP, how will payment work for this JV? Will you be working on a split profit basis, or will it be the normal hourly rate type of thing?

Are you still looking for one?
If yes, then drop me a PM with your skype id and I will send you my portfolio.

Without going into too much personal detail, I had a very poor experience with this user (Lets call him Mr. X) . After doing some basic proof of concept with the homepage (Layout, look and feel, ethos) delivering screenshots and making adjustments according to requests - I requested some simple paperwork to protect my work before uploading to his server (as Mr. X requested). Mr. X mentioned that "no such paperwork exists" "how can I know before we launch?" "trust me I left my job making lots of money, youll be compensated well".

After these obvious red flags, a week later I continued to help as a consultant helping him decide if the supplied designs for the "Hero image" would fit the ethos I was going for.

He connected the designer and I into a group skype asked me to "take care of it" while hes gone - make sure I get what I need etc. The designer showed me a screenshot, I said looks great! (because it did) and then the designer said great - Ill send you the files once I receive payment from Mr. X. He/She received payment - complimented my work and said lets keep in touch. Cool beans.

After receiving the files, I implemented onto the homepage as requested via screenshot from Mr.X. Completed a "Blog" section which was requested as well.

Once Mr.X knew I was ready he rushed me by saying "Hurry up I need to launch tomorrow!" "I have investors waiting!"

"You asked for a contract that does not exist" "the only contract that does exist is giving you a % of my company and obviously that cannot happen" to which I responded "then its not a joint venture!"

Mr X. Responded:

"It is - when you have an average amount of profits (weekly - monthly) then me can be confident enough to sign on a paperwork that grands you a FIXED amount of money" "I explained you that at the beginning we were both clear on that. I dont understand what makes you play games with me. I spoke to you and explianed the public business plan you believed its going to work. You couldve declined my offer."

"Now you extort me to give you some papers that dont exist two minutes before my launch"

I responded:
"Lol @ extortion"

Mr X:
"SJ (ME) how are you going to success working in such unprofessional way with this terrible communication. I am speeaking as someone who already reached 6 figures which is considered semi success"

After that barf worthy statement, I was getting pretty upset.

I responded:
"Look up Joint Venture, then run a business. A joint venture is a busines entity created by two or more parties generally characterized by shared ownership. 'SHARED OWNERSHIP'"

Mr X:
"But youre just a website designer"

I was done at that point - so many things wrong with that statement. So I had 0 patience left and responded

"Fuck off."

Here are some sections of the original conversation:

original statement directing general assumption of JV.png Original Statement.png

To pay a graphic designer that requests payment before delivering artwork and then refusing to give me ANYTHING to make me feel more comfortable giving someone my work is very insulting.

To rush me while im setting up a VPN and Virtual Environment to make sure the server im connecting to isnt a walk into death - very unprofessional.

To say "Im just a designer" after originally stating "You know how JVs work" and basing the entire value off of a JV partnership mentality is just..

To say "Take care of this while im gone" and then not considering me a partner is.....

To question my integrity and professionalism when the whole thing was sloppy from the start is just... amateur.

Yikes, sounds like a horrible experience. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I can design anything. I don't have a portfolio because I haven't done any freelancer work in over a year. I will work for free if you teach me your business

This story is so sad. I feel sorry for SpaceJanitor.

Assuming he just need an ecommerce, not willing to shell few hundred bucks to hire some Asian, that is kinda sad.

I mean, I understand some people REALLY strapped for cash when starting a business ... but are you willing to pawn your soul to the devil by stepping other people's head ... just to start your business? So sad, man.
