I'm fairly new in the SEO game but I've studied my ass off, cut through all the bullshit and finally figured out what works and I've been putting it into action.
My wife does tutoring part time on the side and as my first project I decided I'd make her a wordpress site and rank the keyword "[city] [subject] tutor" so she could pick up more clients. I just created a wordpress blog with an exact match domain and put up 5 or so pages with services, prices and testimonials from students.
It started out on page 4 when it was first indexed and I've been building links for the last 6 weeks and have seen it slowly rise to number 12 and then settle on 16 at the moment. There are language schools and tutoring websites ranking on the first page, so I'm currently working on my first PBN to make it to the first page and I have some high quality expired domains (DA30+ newspaper backlinks, niche relevant).
Last night she tutored a new student who contacted her and she asked how he found her and he said he saw the website after searching [city] [subject] tutor in Google.
It's an early victory for me and even though it's a small win I'm celebrating it because this has basically validated for me that if you work hard and learn SEO it can change your life.
I really appreciate everyone at BHW advice, opinions and ideas. I've learned so much here.
