I'm fairly new in the SEO game but I've studied my ass off, cut through all the bullshit and finally figured out what works and I've been putting it into action.

My wife does tutoring part time on the side and as my first project I decided I'd make her a wordpress site and rank the keyword "[city] [subject] tutor" so she could pick up more clients. I just created a wordpress blog with an exact match domain and put up 5 or so pages with services, prices and testimonials from students.

It started out on page 4 when it was first indexed and I've been building links for the last 6 weeks and have seen it slowly rise to number 12 and then settle on 16 at the moment. There are language schools and tutoring websites ranking on the first page, so I'm currently working on my first PBN to make it to the first page and I have some high quality expired domains (DA30+ newspaper backlinks, niche relevant).

Last night she tutored a new student who contacted her and she asked how he found her and he said he saw the website after searching [city] [subject] tutor in Google.

It's an early victory for me and even though it's a small win I'm celebrating it because this has basically validated for me that if you work hard and learn SEO it can change your life.

I really appreciate everyone at BHW advice, opinions and ideas. I've learned so much here.

It's always a good feeling.
I still remember my first success very vividly, when I made my first online dollars I was 16... You don't have responsibilities as a 16 yr old. Everything is expendable haha... Good times.

Your wife is a very lucky and proud women. And you are a truly amazing husband.

Good job immaletyoufinish! I really like your little success story and hopefully one day I'll open a thread just like this one.

Congrats on getting to no.16 so far but im sure as you know....getting to page 1 and top 3 should be your main goal.

Congratz dude, i learn alot here too.

My wife and 3 sons are my main goal. Its tough and hell. But see my sons faces its the Heaven in their eyes.

Well done, op. Onward and upward to the top of the serps.

I'm in the 'studying my ass off' phase of learning SEO. Is there anything you came across that was particularly helpful?

are you taking any commison on her sales? :V jokes aside, congrats man :D

You know, there is so much info on SEO and most of it is generic and bullshit. 100% PBN is king and very effective. Also good expired domains are gold.

It's a pay to play game. You have to spend a bit of money on some infrastructure that will allow you to leverage your time. Scrapebox is a must in this respect. I've spent maybe about $150 all up so far on acquiring some tools/infrastructure but it's very very worth it and honestly hard to get anywhere without it. When I started I really didn't want to spend any money, I just wanted to bootstrap by earning something small and using that to buy tools and upgrade. It was only after I realized that it's a pay to win game of skill that I studied harder and acquired the tools I needed.

Yes! Top 3 is my goal always. That's where 80% of the traffic is. Gonna crush it. My next project is gonna be really worth it to get to the top 3.

And to everyone asking if I'm getting commission on her sales... well... in a way yes right? It's money into our household. She has a background in international business and lately I've inspired her to want to start our own business and build up to 10x what we are earning now. We did some keyword research together last weekend and found a profitable niche we are well positioned to go after so that's our focus for the rest of the year.

This is a test. This is my challenge. If I can execute this then I'm not going to stop til I reach all of my goals.

Congrats on your first success, you can only go from strength to strength from here..

Don't forget the local pack another KW+ City opportunity....

Congrats! You should go one step further and add Schema to your site. That will build more local relevance and quite help with links. Even if your site doesn't have a Google My Business Page, you should build citations. It's all about building local relevance and citations + Schema will help.

If you want to create even more relevance and help your rankings, then you should create like 5 x 500-600 words posts about your city + 5 x 500-600 words posts about your topic and use them to link to your services pages and homepage. This will build a lot of relevance as well.

You can also try to geo-tag your images. As you are trying to rank locally, all these tips will help and are likely to cost you less than building your own PBN. Give these tips a try and I'm sure you will rank quite well.

Great info, do you know any article related to this to expand? I'll do my own research in any case
