AMP website VS RWD Website : AMP win ?

Hey there,

I create all my websites in RWD since the beginning and it works for the moment, my ranking is "good" (but not enough ).
Question is: Have someone tried to change RWD to AMP and seen a difference in SERP ?

It might be more relevant for Google, AMP is faster and it's their own service.

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) just still have less share around the web, but it's now increasing steadily.
Responsive Web Design (RWD) is around and become standard for nowadays websites.
I think AMP will be more popular day by day in the near future.
Still, RWD with AMP is a good mix currently.

In that case then, I use responsive WP themes for most of my websites and my rankings are just fine (first page).

AMP is not a ranking factor and should only be a priority for implementation if you're a publisher or news outlet.

Currently, AMP is going to get you in a news carousel at the top of mobile results. If you search something newsworthy that is trending on your phone, you will see those AMP articles. Those articles have AMP friendly markup and AMP versions hosted on their site, and they've already been cached by Google and that is why they load so quickly in your SERPs.

If you find and load those articles in the traditional SERP, it is not going to serve you the AMP version unless that is the only version available (ie their whole site is using the AMP format). Otherwise you'd have to load the AMP verion of the URL (ie exmple.co/news/exmple-news-article/amp).

If you're not a news site, I wouldn't worry about AMP since it is not a ranking factor. If you do publish blogs/articles on trending topics, AMP should be a priority.

Real ranking factors that somewhat relate to AMP are: mobile friendly websites and fast load times. You can optimize for those signals with a traditional RWD and PageSpeed optimizations.

Well ten years later, and I'm still using wordpress, but now with responsive themes and customizations. Nice to see how out of the loop I am on these development tools. Someday I hope to have time to slow down long enough to learn something new.
