- There is no specific amount, it depends on your keyword density and if your LSI or not.
- Try not to leave footprints obviously, yes they're a factor.
- The TLD matters overall, but I would focus on the top 5 TLDs. (com, net, org, co, us/uk)
- Yes it's questionable, you want it to be relevant to your niche.
- Yes, velocity matters. Don't send 100 links to your site in one day and think that's all you have to do. Diversify your backlink profile, consistently send links to your tier 1's and tier 2's to keep them alive, post new content once or twice per week. Simple.

I will just say "Be as natural as you can"
There is no recipe out there which can tell the exact number of links will rank a website and trust me when i say this if one thing works on one website doesn't means it will work on all. Creating relevancy is the key its not about just placing a link on a website but placing a link where the target audience can see it. I have ranked sites with less then 50 backlinks.

They will definitely appear more natural and should be more valuable. Relevance of the source of links seems to be increasingly important.

Yes, highly relevant niche related backlinks will be more effective than a irrelevant high PR site. Try to add more niche links and you will be good to take your site to the top level.
