Ask Me Anything about selling on eBay

I have seen something in front of my eyes that currently stands at 170% Return.
Need some help of an eBayer like you with this though.
Thanks

If you have a general question you can just ask on the thread. If it's really item specific question you may ask, I might not be the best person to ask because so much of what I do is specific to my niche.

I have a question regarding the 21 days hold. This might be a noob question.

is it possible to buy a high limit account (not an aged one) and then buy a good paypal account (+90 days), then link them together.

Will this remove the 21 days hold?

How do you get ebay to up the limit in selling items?

there are two schools of thought on how to get limit increases...listing to the limit and calling in every month and making no contact with eBay at all. I am of the "don't call eBay if you can avoid it" school.

No. The holds come from eBay and linking an aged paypal will not help you. Anyhoo, you should not be rushing after you link a new paypal to eBay, as that sets off red flags.

I took the time to read a lot of the thread but I don't understand why selling on Ebay is so shady. What is the point of having a stealth account and stuff like that. For reference we will say phone cases. Why cant someone buy the basic ebay store for $20 a month. Buy in bulk phone cases and padded envelopes. Then get a thermal printer for labels. So you have your item to sell, your packaging, and labels. Then just post your phone cases on ebay and ship them from your house as orders come. Is it shady because you actually need to start up a business with a name? Is it illegal to sell those bulk items or what? Sorry these questions are dumb but atleast im asking?

It depends on what phone cases you are talking about. It goes a little something like this...

You spot a nice deal on branded phone cases and couldn't resist buying it for so cheap since you can see the potential profit. So you order a lot of it. Then you post these branded cases and next you know you are getting your listings pulled by ebay for infringement. Now you are sitting on a few thousand or a few hundred of dollars invested in the cases you purchased for cheap. Now you are under pressure to get of the cases to get recoup your money and have no where else you can move your phone cases. You then try to relist again in several ways to avoid infringement and come to find out after the third attempt, ebay bans your account indefinitely. Now you are stuck with the cases in your possession.

What will you do at this point? Most will try to seek help on trying to get back on ebay to get rid of their stock which is a bad idea. Other will want to just get back on and try to sell something else and hope they don't get banned again.

And this is where things start get shady.

But don't these chinese companies sell these bulk cases for people to sell. Some companies make you buy 100 or more cases at a time. What would be the point in that without the intention for the buyer to sell them? What is illigal in us selling the cases. Is it the company that makes the cases not allowing us to do that? There unbranded, it doesn't have a company logo on it.

Selling on eBay is not shady. Selling $1 fake branded phone cases from China as authentic otterboxes is shady.

Sorry this is probably a newb question but whats the point of having stealth accounts and not just normal ones? It seems like you're not doing anything shady, so why use them? Is it only to bypass limits or is there something I'm missing? If your selling good legitimate products and have good rep, whats the point of a stealth account?

1. You can get your account banned for stupid reason. As in, I once had a 23,000item/$7.5 million account banned because of a dispute started when I called eBay, the rep called me a liar, I asked the rep to go online and check for herself, etc... I know someone who had even a bigger eBay account banned when he got in a bad auto accident and was hospitalized for 3 months, and couldn't get it back once he got out of the hospital. When your paycheck depends on being able to sell on eBay, it's crucial that something stupid doesn't put me out of business. My overhead in the area of $30K a month. As in, $30K has to go into my bank account every single month for me to keep the doors open. If I'm making $50K a month on one ebay account, once I have eBay or paypal troubles, I have to be putting in $30K a month in my bank account from my pocket every month just to stay open. If I'm making $50K a month on 10 ebay accounts, having one account being banned isn't that huge of a deal. Unless you become big enough at the level where they pretty much let you get away with anything, it's important that you don't put yourself in a position where you get crippled because of factors outside your control.

2. Having multiple accounts doesn't let my suppliers and competitors know exactly what I'm doing. Am I selling this item really cheap because I can source it that cheap or am I just getting rid of old inventory? Am I just selling something at cost just to be a dick to a competitor who's messing with me? What's my average selling cost and profit margin for this item? Neither my friends nor my enemies need to know stuff like this. This becomes important once you become big enough in a niche so you have people following your every move. For example, there are people who try to copy exactly a successful eBay business, as in they copy your website, your store design, your listing, carry exactly what you carry, etc. When my sales are divided up among multiple accounts, I draw far less attention from these parasites.

How do you know if an item's being sold often-enough to have a chance?

There are services that keep track of items being sold, such as terrapeak. But in general the best profits come from things that you don't have a thousand similar items already for sale.

How do I increase my selling limit past 10 items without calling to talk about it?

If the account was created without shortcuts, after 10-20 successful transactions they will raise limits. IMO, I would go as far to say that if after 20 transactions they haven't raised your limits something is wrong.

I have a 21-day hold removed on eBay, I was reselling Fiverr gigs after 90 days with 100% feedback eBay removed it so I want to start dropshiping but don't know how I would be able to buy stuff on amazon by Paypal for received orders. My funds will be on PayPal and withdraw will take 3-5 days + PayPal will charge me 10$ which will destroy my profits and I don't have any budget to pay from my pocket. I'm outside of the USA, I live in Georgia. What is the solution? Thanks

I personally don't recommend the arbitrage thing if you're outside the US, for this and other reasons.

I haven't done ebay/paypal in years - limited paypal/ebay account shutdown for selling fake jerseys. I was ok with it, it was easy money, good money, but I got caught and moved on. I've never looked into stealth accounts. I setup online things for friends who sell tangible products, but avoid ebay/paypal because of my past with them. Reading through this thread has sparked my interest again.

Just to get it straight in my own mind, the following is all that's needed to get back into it?

Separate email, ip, bank account, EIN, address?

For the bank accounts I can simply open a new account and link it to ebay/paypal using a different name (different name on ebay/paypal...not bank account)?

Thanks for taking the time to do this thread.

Everything must be new. Although if you were banned for selling fakes, I would use a new computer just to be on the safe side. And for bank yes, that would work until you got to the point where you started doing above $5K-$10K a month through a paypal account, at which point they may request ID as part of risk assessment.

Thanks for your replies. One of the items I listed is an Oxgord pet stroller. If you use that keyword, my item (from Panama) comes up. I look at competitors' selling rates and they seem to be selling and my price is lower, has pictures and says Free 2-Day Shipping. Idk what I'm doing wrong.
