Paying for a cPanel license? Step-by-step tutorial for a free alternative

It's remarkable how many website owners, especially from BHW, who use virtual and dedicated servers ask for cPanel and are even willing to pay $15-$40/month for a license just because they're familiar with the platform. When I tell them about Vesta, a free alternative that is just as secure, a lot of them decline this offer. Why? Because most of them don't know anything about Vesta, and others are not willing to pay the $xx installation fee that we ask.

So I've decided to write a 7-step tutorial on how you can setup all your websites using Vesta without spending a single dime. You can read it here, and if you have any questions about Vesta, I'd be happy to answer them.

P.S. I'll be writing a lot more tutorials from now on. If you have any suggestions, or would like me to cover something specific, please tell.

cPanel has more functions than Vesta, but most of them are obsolete when it comes to storing websites. Other than that, the functionalities are the same, only the interface is very different. You get used to it quickly since it's quite intuitive. Just like cPanel, Vesta frequently receives updates, patches from discovered hacks, and is considered in the hosting industry as a reliable and secure platform. Furthermore, Vesta is open-source, and uses less storage space than cPanel. It's also lighter on RAM load.

it is alternative of cpanel but not like cpanel. When you are going to opensource yet it is good but cannt be handle by basic user who do not know much about linux. As for core change and additional feature you have to work with linux for that. though it is nice alternative and fast , a good alternative for basic user with nginx .
 
Can you setup vesta on a new vps

are you going to do a full install with a plain
vps know that be intresting....

complete plain setup vps new and you tutorial full setup.

I am will to go thru your whole tutoral if you write it....

afther full install from what you have written .

is php installed know?
is a email app installed know?
is mysql installed know?
is a domain function installed ?
is online email installed?
is dns function installed?

just need to no are all the above like cpanel installed from your example

Hello, I went to the demo Vesta has on their website. Adding a new website seems quite easy, but I'm wondering what happens to the file structure on the server.

I mean, do you have to create the folders for the new website manually or does Vesta create them by itself?

Is this like the addon domains feature in cpanel?

Vesta creates them for you automatically.

Didn't say it's not worth it. Even we use it for all our shared servers. I'm addressing those who want to lower their monthly costs ;)
 
If you are just going to install Wordpress, then you don't even require any panel. You can follow this tutorial:

It's a lot safer to not use any panel if you are not using cPanel, the reason for paying cPanel is not because it's costly, but it's secured. cPanel handles all the security patches with ease and its all automated. Not only that, cPanel/WHM has set an industry standard and every single host, no matter how big has to know how to handle cPanel. Same with the users. In the end, it all comes down to your requirement.

If you're a system administrator, then you're not required to use a control panel. But most website owners still prefer to use one.

ugjunk's You are wrong. cPanel has the slowest patching ATA. And there is an high vulnerability issue with cPanel root that they have still not manage to fix :) For me the safest (and even better panel) is InterWorx why ? Google it :)
