Thanks for this mate! Would love to use Yoast but it really slowed down my backend on WP...any alternatives you can recommend?

It shouldn't slow you down. My sites load between 0.3s and 2s depending on location.

hello quick question. So now I have a pillar article 3000 words.

I have my site with my homepage being golfarena.com/golf-clubs just like yours with tombelfot.com/electric-shavers

I'm trying to rank the article for golf club reviews and best golf club. What should the url be? Does golfarena.com/golf-clubs/reviews work??

I'd go for /clubs/reviews instead. It's very easy to get an over optimization penalty on new sites.

So does that mean I should change my original homepage from golfarena.com/club-sets to golfarena.com/clubs ?

Since i have to do the changing the whole static page by doing this would the other pages automatically change there urls as well?

Very thanks for useful guide op.It helps a lot.

It contains great information about silo structure. It helps lot of people.

Awesome guide, looks like its the same as I'm doing.
I see you have some experince with Amazon websites so I have some questions:
1. What about menus? do you use same menu for the whole site, like you are doing in tombelfort.com? What about dropdowns, don't they hurt your silo ? I mean it makes it possible to go from almost any page to any page.

2. What about Email lists? Do you collect emails from your visitors? I'm asking because I do collect emails but not sure what to do with them at the moment.

3. What about sidebars? exept from the related posts do you put something else? like Amazon banners or w/e?

Thanks mate~

I only use level 1 dropdowns, since it's cleaner.

I don't build email lists on amazon sites, nah. I just aim to get them onto amazon.

I don't put related posts in the sidebar. I don't use posts at all on my sites. It's all pages. I have a custom menu with the silo child pages in the sidbar. I use a banner there too on some sites, yeah.

Excellent guide Splishsplash.

I have a generic site with hundreds of posts rather than pages. The menu's are created using the categories.

Would you suggest I turn all of the posts into pages and then use the custom menu on each page? The Simple Page Sidebars plugin doesnt support posts

I'm certain you can find a similar plugin for posts. I use the Sensational theme on one of my sites that has a built in widget for "featured articles" and you can choose which posts to feature in it. I'm sure its a few code edits away from being unique to each page if you want.

For an existing site that's already done, don't make any major changes if it's already ranking.

Just make sure you do lots of internal linking and juice will flow.

What is the est link-building strategy for silo sites? Do PBN's work great for these type of websites?

PS Top-notch guide. Thanks a lot!

Anything that works on a non-silo'd site will work on a silo'd site.

Some homepage links, some level 1 silo category page links, some level 2 silo cat pages(if you have a 2 level site) and a smattering of links to inner pages.

I don't have specific percentages that I use. I just do it based on the article. So if the article is about animals, link to the homepage. If it's about dogs, link to the dog silo page, if it's about Chihuahua's then link to a relevant chihuahua page.

Just as always watch your anchor.

What I do these days for my pbns is for every 10 pbn links :-

3 brand
3 naked
2 lsi
1 generic
1 exact

Awesome guide, a life saver for me and I know for many others. Have one question for now, generic but relates to the whole Amazon website theming and siloing, How important are site logos? Must such sites, Amazon site have a logo atleast as it has often been said here that any website needs a logo, to create branding and a unique identity.

Thank you once again for the guide, you're an amazing individual.
