So Google is testing out a local sponsored ads feature.

Which will make them the biggest local directory.

If you type "plumber los gatos", you should see the sponsored box at the top of the search.

This is going to have a huge impact on Yellowpages, yelp,.. and everyone that is doing local lead gen.

Google are a bunch of asshole that just can seem to fuck off.

This going to pressure everyone to buy into their bullshit directory.

This shit is going make in hell for local seo's.

This is such bullshitttt. Fucking assholes.

They have been doing this for different niches and ad types. They can do whatever they want so long as they enjoy such a huge marketshare.

You are getting free traffic from google and you complain?

No, I'm actually not getting any free traffic from them. I am building a lead gen site. I have enough competition and if they decide to roll this thing out. It going to suck most of the traffic. I understand its their search engine and they can do as they wish but it really sucks if they decide to shit on your parade.

That's just business. When someone wins (google), somebody else has to lose (you).

Remember how Walmart killed a shit ton of local mom and pop shops? Same thing is happening online.

Op, just a friendly advise.

Try to diversify your skills as much as possible. Don't rely always on Google's SEO algorithm.

Did you really think that after Google Places fell under that they weren't going to try and corner the local marketing area? I mean, it's not a hard one to miss there. There will be methods popping up left and right how to game that.

Nobody gets "free traffic". Time = money. So whether you have bought articles, a domain, SEO, or put the time in to rank, it isn't free.

Hmm.. Can you elaborate why will this impact local seo?

You do realize that SEO is nothing more than circumventing their algorithms in order to give you an upper-hand, right? Don't blame Google for growing their revenue or their user interaction.

Well, first of all I can see exactly where you're coming from.

Whenever people are dealing with monopoly, it's very easy to get frustrated.

Nevertheless, you have to keep in mind that Google became a monopoly not because of some sort of government action or some sort of unfair maneuver on their part, they achieved that position because they deliver a solid service and people found value in that service.

Instead of getting all frustrated about the competitive advantage Google may have with local directory sponsored ads, focus more on how you can provide a better value.

The fact that you already know the tremendous competitive value being listed in their directory affords you at this point in time, should make you glad.

It should let you know that now is the time to get a competitive advantage ahead of local competitors.

In many cases, there are certain areas that local competitors have a tough time getting up to speed.

So, instead of wasting energy being frustrated and upset by the situation, focus on the only thing that truly counts: beating your competitors.

Same thing can be said about anything and everything in life, it's not really an excuse to go around crying though.

Typical of businesses. It is all about big fish eating up the small fishes. Google is a giant, how do you beat a giant? Hit him at areas that they cannot see nor defend. If local directory is something that Google is creating, then change your strategy. Focus on offline marketing. Get people used to using your sites.

Look at Google, they cannot penetrate into China. With their vast capital, they cannot do anything about it at all. They just don't understand the culture as well as the local does. Remember local site means that is your playground. You should understand your market better than Google.

People make money with AdWords. If your client`s organic gets wiped out start selling them AdWords. Google can't get rid of AdWords people as easily (although they sure will try).

OP. Be positive. You cannot stop Google from such initiatives. Not all end users are aware of these techniques, so offer these services to your clients and make money

You just can't rely on SEO or trust Google. It'll let you down every time. I know it may sound cliche, but diversifying is your only option, because Google could really care less about anyone but themselves. They use the little guys to rise up and then they stomp on them. But don't let them stomp on you! Don't let them bully you out of your business success. You have to find a way to make it work and get in where you fit in.
