Hold up.
I've gotten a ridiculous amount of backlash for my response. Let me clarify how my own situation panned out.
I used my own bank account and social security number attached to my PayPal. I was an idiot kid and let some random pay me $150 to use my eBay account. They rung up over $1,000 in fraudulent sales. Both my eBay and PayPal were shut down. I called PayPal but they didn't believe me.
So I got some emails and panicked because I didn't want my parents finding out.
Then the calls started. I didn't have $1K+ to hand over to PayPal. I didn't know shit about finances at the time, either. So I ignored it. I did NOT use any of my parents' information and my situation did NOT affect them in any way.
So.
OP, if for some reason this could affect your parents' finances negatively, man the fuck up and take responsibility. If you are under 18 and this is 100% your problem, ignore it. I stand by my statement. The financial system for minors in the US is a fickle mistress. They can't physically come after you.
When you turn 18, this shit becomes your problem and can affect you. So stop doing stupid things with your PayPal.
Better?
Since this happened, I've received a four-year college degree in the financial realm, have had six years of experience in various positions in the financial sector, and have gained a ridiculously meticulous grasp on my own personal finances. With the knowledge I have now, I still would have ignored it.
