Hey guys ,
I just wanted to know your thoughts on how duplicate content ranks atm , i see a lot of website scraping content from other websites and ranking pretty well . So i was wondering is there a particular reason that would make a duplicated content rank in one case and not in another ? Or is it just a matter of "luck" ? because there are some website out there that are 100% copied ( not spun or rewriten ) that are ranking pretty good.
Thanks .

Nope, it ain't allowed mate!
allowed ? what does that mean lol ? i guess you can put whatever you want on your website , it's just a matter of whether it ranks or not ..

As i know, if you have duplicate content you'll get penalized...

Duplicate content like you had the same content on your site, over and over and over: or are you claiming you copied someone's work and Google found out and slapped you around?

duplicate content as in, you copy pasted from someone elses website , pretty sure thats what he means,

and def a no no, dont get me wrong, you *can* but you dont really want to if you want to rank your site

No Duplicate same to same no way dude obviously google will pay attention to original content spun content on other hand can be if it is not real competitive niche and if it is able to show that it is unique ;)

Duplicate content does not work in almost all cases from what I have noticed. But you seem to be referring to either aggregators or news syndication sites as you say those articles/content are ranking well. Duplicate content only seem to work in news syndication or aggregator sites as they are big brands and so, the search engines tend to trust them more even if the content is syndicated. So, those content get passed off if they are syndicated content and rank well still due to the brand value. Having said that, I have noticed most large news sites getting their content rewritten nowadays instead of posting syndicated content from AP etc. like they did in the past. Unique content works better even in those cases.

It depends what planet you live on. On Mars, the gravity is 38.2% of what is is on Earth, therefore duplicate content will not work.

Why would you reply with this dude , your answer is useless , you think you're smart but you really aren't lol
Let's assume i'm a newbie , or that i don't have any logic , is this a good reason to treat me like an idiot?
AND i am asking this because i've seen lately a lot of cases of copied content ranking quite well on the serps , if you can't give any info regarding this matter you could just move on into the next thread maybe ??

yeah man i'm going to , working on the script to generate the content and will probably post a case study if anything interesting pops out ;)

I'll fly a space craft to Uranus if you actually post a case study.

You just gave me enough motivation to do so HAHA , you better start working on that space craft mate :D

It'll work if you're driving traffic to it by way of facebook, I have a few sites that have dupe content of the viral news niche.

When google sees "duplicate" content google tries to figure out which one is most relevant for the user, a lot of factors are in play to determain this, is one version more reader/user friendly?, does one have more media such as pic and/or vid?, number and quality of backlinks.

There is no duplicate content penalty from google worst case scenario is that a. you will rank lower than the original source or b. That the original content owner informs google that it is copyright infringment and ask them to remove you from the serps.

The real thing to worry about when it comes to copy and pasting other peoples content is if the conent owner either files a DMCA against your host, and they get scared and remove your site/page, or that the content owner files a lawsuite against you for copyright infringment, the last part about the lawsuite rarely happens but the risk is there, however most often they'll ask you or your host to remove the piece of content before even thinking about going to court with it.

thank's man , actually what i'm planning to test with is an API that provides free data , i'll gather the data , put it in a decent template and bulk post it into a wordpress blog , and i'll see how it will index/rank . will post a detailed topic about it once i have everything ready .
