You don't have to, i do it to target certain keyphares, but even 100% duplicated content works, i have doorway sites with 98% the exact same content, on my own .info domain ranking for service city and they have ranked for almost 8 years now... so there you gio

This is simply not true, duplicate content with or without the "canonical link to original" makes no difference AT ALL, and i know this cus i make most of my money with duplicate content and i can't count the times that i have outranked the original with an exact copy of the same content...

It's a good way to get a penalty.

1) This is an old thread..

but

2) Even if Google doesn't penalize you, it will view non-original content the same as it views NO content. In other words it would give you credit for a mostly blank page.

3) Content isn't THAT hard to come by. Why not just do quality work instead of screwing with "maybe's" and having to worry.
