Hey guys,
So I thought I would share my knowledge about 301 redirects and why you are not having the success you should be. I have given this information out in replies to other related posts but thought I would create a separate post so it's all in one place. It's short and to the point but you will seriously benefit from it if you follow the advice.
Firstly, 301 redirects are STILL a powerful method IF done correctly. Most people simply buy a new domain or an aged domain and redirect it straight away. STOP! Don't do this because the effectiveness is dramatically reduced. This is what you need to do: -
1) Buy an aged domain with good DA / PA & backlink history.
2) Get a simple 1 page site or small multi-page site installed on the domain in the SAME niche you are targeting on your money site (unique quality content)
3) Host the domain on a separate IP with different name servers to your money site
4) Create links to the domain from PBN's, Contextual GSA and any other method you normally use
5) Send social signals (optional but I found this helps)
6) Make sure all the content / pages are indexed
7) Leave it to sit for a few months (minimum 1 month recommended)
8) At this point 301 the domain to your money site
9) Continue sending links to the 301 redirected domain
Why do this? Well, it's simple. When you buy an aged domain with a backlink history Google will see that the site has a history in a completely different niche to your money site. Changing the site with content from the same niche, sending relative backlinks and giving time for Google to 'accept' new niche makes everything much more effective.
Patience is the key here. Nice and steady wins the race.
Hope that helps...
