Domain age and ranking question

Has anyone been able to rank a very young website high? I'm reading up on domain age and SEO and it's a complete cluster****, some people say age doesn't matter, some claim it's the most important factor, I don't know who to believe

I bought a domain a month ago and allowed search engines to crawl it today. My competition is fairly low to non-existent, I have good on-page SEO. Will good backlinks be enough or do I literally have to wait no matter what I do?

Hmm.. I'd like to know this too. The logical reasoning would be that age matters though. Kinda illogical to suddenly get top ranking on new sites, then again I've seen people do it.

Its all like you said a cluster**** , their are a lot of factors at play , but having a aged domain that has not been penalised in recent past and has decent backlink profile (even a few good links will do) , will be easier/faster to rank compared to a new domain, if all other variables are similar.

Im in the learning stages myself. Though you said you brought a domain. was it an expired domain already with link juice? or fresh with nothing...

Ive been taught that age does matter but not on domains on the page content itself. if you create new great page on a young site there should be no reason to out-rank an aged shit page on a great site. though you need to look at the links built etc. im sure the experts will have a better explanation though this makes sense.

I have a 2 month old site that rank around 30th for low competitive keyword now, i think it will rank on page 1 after a month. Therefore, age doesn't matter, for me.

From what I understand the age of the account is actually a minimal factor beyond a few months. The real value people see in old domains are the links already built toward them giving them more authority from the start.

This is exactly it, its not necessarily the age of the domain its just the domain has been around for some time so it will of course have a nice amount of links.

Domain age can be a very powerful and influential factor when it comes to rankings. If the domain has a clean history and hasn't been dropped, then this is a huge advantage.


But... it's more important you understand what's working in your particular niche. Type your main keyword into Google and look at the domain age of the top 10 sites ranking for your main keyword.


For example the keyword ‘garcinia cambogia' which is very competitive had only one domain in the top 10 results that was less than 10 years old (6 years). The average domain age for that keyword was around 15 years old. So for that niche, it definitely matters.


If the top 10 results on the first page for your main keywords have sites with varying domain ages, then this is a strong indication that you may be able to rank a fresh domain in that niche if your site and link profile is strong enough.


If all the sites on the first page are over five years old then you know you're in for some very hard work if you going to attempt to rank a fresh domain name. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, but this is it the easiest way to tell whether domain age is a big factor in your niche.


The only other thing to consider is that perhaps your keyword is a little bit obscure, and those aged domains are only ranking because of their authority. If the ranking sites are a really poor match for the actual search keyword, then you may be able to outrank them with a fresh domain because you're on page content is laser targeted for that keyword.

Fresh with nothing, unfortunately. Though the #1 result doesn't have a single damn backlink. Hopefully I can outrank them.

Is it an EMD? No backlinks, what about a social profile? How old is the the #1?

No doubt old websites have its own value . for my personal experience if we have new site just 3 to 6 month and we get backlink from old websites that will be strong backlinks . Even if you scrap domains i checked them all domain is 5 to 7 year old after put my articles my site boost within 24 hours. So clean and old domain backlink is very strong

That's not what I wold call "rough". Just some good backlinks with some pr behind them and having them indexed. You'll be good after a month or two. Though, I'd recommend purchasing an expired domain with some pr and an established backlink profile

BTW, would forum posts work as backlinks? A lot of results in the top 10 for my keywords are just old forum posts... I could probably squeeze in a ******** in those exact posts. I don't plan to build backlinks solely on forums, but does it pay off for 30 minutes of work? My main issue is getting my domain flagged by Google or something

I don't think it does matter. I would pick a 2-3 month old domain with good backlinks instead of years old domain with not so good backlinks.
