Domain age and ranking question

It's negligible in most cases; a brand-spanking new domain usually has a more difficult time ranking due to a lack of backlinks as well as Google not having enough information on the website for their index.

Aged domains get edge over fresh one's in terms of backlinks & other metrics. If metrics and backlinks are fine aged domain is way to go (then its UNBEATABLE).

But, if metrics are manipulated and backlinks are not so good, then fresh domain is ideal. It all depends on the aged domain history (rankings, metrics & backlinks etc.).

New domains requires sometime to settle down in SERP's. But depending on the competition and niche (as you've provided inputs), fresh domain can rock too on basis of content, perfect on-page and some powerful backlinks.

Domain age impact ranking with like 5% . I have manage to rank in top 10 domains with age of 5 days

What you should look for is to get sure that it you are buying old domain / expired domain etc that its backlinks profile is good . Google says that it resets the backlinks after domain expires but I don't believe that they can do it on 100%

BTW, would forum posts work as backlinks? A lot of results in the top 10 for my keywords are just old forum posts... I could probably squeeze in a ******** in those exact posts. I don't plan to build backlinks solely on forums, but does it pay off for 30 minutes of work? My main issue is getting my domain flagged by Google or something

Yes they count. I wouldn't have those in my first tier/pointing to my money site, but yeah it diversifies your backlink profile. Assuming you have other backlink sources.

Read this linked below. Then TEST yourself. You can avoid the mythical sandbox. You need a little patience but it's entirely feasible. Leith also wrote some stuff about it recently. Check the thread to that link below too.

Also...If you're chasing REALLY longtail keywords, you should rank for some without doing much of anything. If you are using WP for your site, you can just send some authority links to your Category pages and the juice will flow down to your posts. Many times that's all you need to rank for longtails. And if that doesn't do it, then probably just a few links to the page(s) will get it done.

Key is to TEST and TEST and TEST. You will get a feel for what competition level will rank with little to no links and which ones will need some more power behind them. It's not rocket science. Learn how to rank longtails first and then climb the ladder. Or expand and rank 1000's of longtails. That works too!
