There are a billion reasons Google is the default search engine on your iPhone.

Google allegedly paid its rival Apple $1 billion in 2014 in an agreement that keeps its search bar on the iPhone ? the arch rival to Google?s Android devices.

The two tech giants have a revenue-sharing agreement that give Apple a cut of the money Google makes from traffic on the iPhone, according to court transcripts obtained by Bloomberg.

In return, Apple has made Google the default search engine built into the phone. If a user would prefer to use Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo while surfing Safari, he or she must manually change the choice in the phone?s settings.

The agreement was revealed in Jan. 14 courtroom proceedings from tech firm Oracle?s lawsuit against the search engine company, which alleges that Google developed its Android phones with Oracle?s software.

During the hearing, a Google witness said, ?at one point in time the revenue share was 34%.?

It?s not clear if that percentage was the amount Google paid to Apple or the amount of revenue it kept for itself.

Googles gonna own everything. Oh well, more money for us who do SEO :o

google want to dominate everything...

Very smart move, can't blame them.

Smart move on their part, if you got the cash might as well re-invest it. No point in having 50billion+ sitting in a bank account doing nothing

Google is king in search. And will be for many years. So make a wise turn now and look after 10 years where will your business stand?

I hope there will be new things coming in the next few years from these two giants working together. Something really BIG, I suppose.

If you ask me, google knows how to dominate their market.

That's pretty crazy, but an excellent bit of business on Googles side of things. Then again, Apple won't be complaining with a large revenue sure and $1 billion.

i thought they would of asked more than 1 billion theres a lot of ios devices over time im sure there going to see way more than 1b back how come apple arent making a search engine?

Big 'G' network has really talented folks, or I should say poach away highly motivated talents to increase their inventory. I applaud them for the smart move.
