Apparently I've been banned for "artificially collecting likes and followers". Not too sure about the meaning of that, first off. Second, I've been sent an email to verify my account by sending them a picture of me holding a paper written a code they sent in the email. Can anyone confirm my the legitimacy of this? Thanks!

Thing is, I've never used a bot, ever. That's why I think it's wierd that they say that!

Nothing at all. All done manually and organically. Started the account from scratch 2 days ago, went up to 500 followers, and then banned.

Same. I own only one instagram account (14.5k) and they banned me yesterday. Never used a bot, never purchased any ig services, old and verified account... I don't get it.

Do you guys use a web application to check up on your account? I've been hearing that some of those "free" Instagram unfollowing, analysis, etc. pages are not approved by IG. If you use any of those, likely to get banned.

well then, you just simply overdone it, that account was just too new for whatever you were doing, slow down with the amount of actions you perform and/or increase the delays between two actions

HoneyBird is correct. All social networks have an algorithm and you tripped it. Same thing happens on Twitter.

Did you give it a little break after sending that face verification?
I think IG watches your account closely after any verification so it's best to leave it for a day or so then continue.

The account is suspended. I can't use it right now, I guess until the IG team reviews the sent picture.

Try not to buy followers or likes from Fiverr, that can raise an alarm at IG

Yes I've sent 3 photos to unban 3 different accounts. Weird, but whatever, I got my accounts back

you look like a bot .. why not growing slowly ?

I went slowly? I didn't spam, really. I can guess 500 in 2 days from 0 is kind of sketchy, but I kid you not, everything was done in moderation manually.

well, there was some behavior which triggered their banning system obviously. It might be hard for Instagram to detect if you're bot or human, maybe your behavior was similar to a bot. :)

apply for it and you'll get it back with no problems. :)

Even if it's being done manually, if you're following or unfollowing at a rate faster than normal users do it, you're putting the account at risk. Just make it all look as natural as possible in the future.

Did you open up or use any other accounts on your phone during this time? IG may have logged your WIFI IP Address (your home proxy) and seen a collection of activity coming from other accounts, and just penalized the youngest account.

I actually already have that covered. I use my home IP for my main account, and my phones internet for the secondary account (that has been banned).
