Most people go wrong when they promote Amazon. They treat it like it is a store.
when you decide to promote an affiliate product like SeNuke, do you find 1000 other IM marketing products and try to sell them all under the same umbrella? the answer is NO.
So treat Amazon like you would an Affiliate site selling an ebook. Treat each product like it is its own affiliate program. You can group similar products together as long as they don't compete with each other. If you offer too many choices on a site, then the person will be overwhelmed and go somewhere else or worse, they will stay on your site.
My dad and me have been doing it for 2 years now and between us we put in at least 12 combined hours every day. the first year we did OK. it took a few months to figure it out. by the end of 2008 we were doing almost 5K per month in commissions.
we really stepped out side the box and figured out 2 ways to really drive profits through the roof and last year we did over $300K in commissions. Unfortunately he has a lot of medical expenses so that got eaten up by the hospitals and doctors.
If there is one thing that most people fail to realize about Amazon it is that you need to drive them from your site to Amazon to make A purchase!
Read that sentence more carefully, you need them to make A purchase, not necessarily purchase the product that you are promoting. As long as you get them there it is your cookie that they are buying on so you get the commission. You want to be a quick bridge from the consumer to Amazon. The quicker you get them to click a link to Amazon, the quicker you get the cookie!
A good trick is to give the first part of a testimonial from the product and have a "click here to read the rest" link. They click it, they get cookied and then they shop around and buy something else, but you get the commission.
So if your site has thousands of products on it then you are giving the customer a reason stay on your site and browse. That is not what you want. You want to get them off of your site and on to Amazon as quickly as possible! After that, who cares what they buy as long as you get paid.
