Question about manual following success

Ive been doing the manual follow technique for about a month or so and have gotten 3.5k followers from it but I was wondering are those numbers typical? How much success have you guys had from manual following? Did it take long?

I started manual following with my current account since 02-11-15 and i have 17.5K followers atm, it will depend on how many people you follow a day and if you post using hashtags, also commenting and liking other people's posts will increase your followers.

I guess it's about average, but i'm getting like 3-4k followers a month and i'm botting, no time spent on the actual account itself.
I remember when i did manual follow on an account, grew it to like 4k in 2 weeks.

i also do manually and all i do is search fore a hashtags (for example "startuplife") and than i follow all the people who liked a picture! I do this until i can't follow any longer. Than the same after one hour. So i get about 100 followers a day.

Is there a better way to do so?

3.5 a month I would say is exactly average. Some do better than others, but the rate should increase overtime due to activity on the page.

I only follow about 300 people a day, if that, my niche is really pinpointed. I guess all I should do now is scale it up.
