Would there be some legal backlashes regarding using this service?
http://saleshq.monster.com/news/articles/2997-lying-on-the-employment-resume?page=2Is misinformation on a resume illegal? No. Since a resume is not a legal document, it is not illegal to misrepresent on a resume.
In the United States its not illegal
great so when some idiot gets a job as a brain surgeon

In the US, is the potential employer supposed to do a background check? For example, does he need to check with the previous employer? May be after 9/11 they are legally supposed to do that check without the knowledge of the job applicant.
I added the following to my post after you posted yours. Its optional except for certain jobs, and a background check just shows if the person has a criminal record or not.
(Highlights in the quote are mine.)For example, some employers might try to find out about the person's work history, education, criminal record, financial history, medical history, or use of social media. Except for certain restrictions related to medical and genetic information (see below), it's not illegal for an employer to ask questions about an applicant's or employee's background, or to require a background check.
It is pretty easy to do. I have had so many people put me down as a job reference and get calls about them.
At this professional level could you trust your friend to know how to give a professional reference or know what to say. Could be very useful for people
I had a friend who decided to completely make up a job title at a fictitious company he made a website for. Then he put a forwarded Google Voice number to his own phone in as the contact number for the reference on his resume. They called and he acted like the director of the firm, and left himself a glowing recommendation. He got the job, and within two years was promoted through the manager and director level and is now sitting in a six figure a year vice president position.
Fake it til you make it. I personally wouldn't do it, though.
This is actually one of my favorite topics! Faking a Resume is such an easy task, people will believe anything if it sounds fancy! There was actually a reporter a while back who faked his way into 5 of the top Pharma companies with a completely fake resume & identity.
First of all, background checks are a joke. You can fool those in so many ways, it's laughable & absolutely no problem. For example: Let's say they're checking your facts and you provide them with three companies you've worked at in the past. The first one (sadly) closed down a few years ago. The second one was sold & then when broke. The third one was on another continent and has no website, but you give them the email address and they respond. You would still pass their check easily!
The real problem comes with faking diplomas & certificates.... What good is the best resume when you never went to university? So a lot of people end up buying fake degrees which is illegal in most countries & will probably come out after a while. How? Well, when those online companies flip (and they do at some point), your fancy degree is suddenly incriminating - and remember, HR has copies of everything!
