Is traffic slowing down for you?

I'm in a recovering-traffic phase right now, so my traffic is kinda low (sub-500/day) and I can't tell if traffic is going down because of possible internal algo changes. My old sites recently got blocked and been restarting with new ones the past month or so.

Anybody out there with "established" sites that are suddenly experiencing slow down within the last few days? I'm interested in the food niche, but we can talk other niches as well.

All I know is that last year, my concerns were how to make money from traffic (1500+/day) as oppose to how to get traffic.

My traffic is steady. Did you check the keywords who bring you most of the traffic inside Google Keywords tool inside adwords and Google trends. Maybe, the subject is just not trending now. Maybe you'd need to update your content f it is still trending. There is more updated content competing with you.

Keyword may not trend as usual as the other months ? Content is not attractive and just typically plain?

Everything is fine on my side.

Hope you're catching this post in the Pinterst sub and not thinking that my issue is seo traffic cos I originally posted in the general Social Media forum and asked to have it removed so I can make a new one in the right sub. In any case, I've never checked Google trends for Pinterest traffic. But great suggestion. I can see how Google trends can correlate with Pinterest.

Hi, I was referring to Pinterest traffic, not Google seo. I originally made this post under the main Social Media forum and asked to have it corrected to this sub. Sorry for my mistake. I'm interested on any up or down movements of Pinterest traffic from "established" sites since that's my main source right now.

in my experience, my established sites only slow down if i don't pin regularly.

Here's what I mean:



A shot of click stats from Pinterest analytics. The dark blue is clicks. The light blue is users. Numbers are sub-500, but that doesn't trouble me so much as the trend flatlining or dipping in the 2nd half. That's why I'm asking "established" site owners on any trends they're seeing.

This is from what I consider to be the strongest account, but I have 2 others in the rotation. In other words, if I pin today from site1 only, tomorrow from site2 only, and the day after from site3 only. Rinse and repeat. That pinning behavior might explain the spikes.

These 3 sites I'm currently working with are only up since August. The trends in the other 2 are similar. The trend is also supported by my Adsense pageview stats which counts all 3 sites. It went up, now going down.

My 2 established sites were blocked recently. So I changed their domains and kept pinning (same images, pin desc, etc.). But technically, these are new sites. Of the current 3, one is completely new in a sense that the images are new and never been pinned on Pinterest. I make my own images for originality.

Good to know that it's just me or new domains facing an uphill battle. That can be overcome. And I don't use url shorteners.

Looks like a dropoff happened to you around middle of October. I feel the same way. Dunno if it's a sitewide thing kinda like the way FB began limiting exposure of groups a few months back.

You got great traffic? How long has your site been active in Pinterest?

Before this month i got between 10k to 20k view a day.what i did is have my blog on wordpress so i spam my link in alot of boards after 4 day they would banned my domain so i would switch domain to a .xyz domain. I have 4 blogs so i can alternate throughout the month .but now my traffic is 50 to 75 percent less so i experimenting with different things

I notice also that a few of big scraper sites that were previously banned are back. They're up and running with usual bot support. Maybe we're competing against them. I'm not a scraper, but I'm sure my pics, tho' orig, are losing real estate in home feeds. Keep in mind that the smart feed algo does not exclusively show pins from accounts/board being followed.

Perhaps scraping w/ lots and lots of bot support is the way to go...

I'm just trying to connect the dots here. So I don't have any concrete proof as to what's going on. But I believe that Pinterest is trying to deal with redirects through algo. One footprint for redirecting urls is the lack of direct pins, i.e. /source page. And that just became a factor or got more heavily weighted. It's affecting newer sites because we don't have a history of pins like older sites.

I believe that in the past, the popularity of an image is enough to get it exposed regardless of the source, e.g. memes, infographics, etc. That's why creating a redirect is a method when your money site gets blocked. Now, the source URL of an image is factoring more than before and redirects are not as effective.

Additionally, this change is probably why many blocked sites have been unblocked. Maybe maintaining a permanent blacklist is too much of a resource hog. If the algo can deal with redirects, then they don't have to maintain a blacklist in the first place.

New white hat websites will just have to grind through by connecting with the Pinterest community. Not sure if it hurts botters because they can easily create a history of activities and pins for a website. But we also know that they're banning bot accounts left and right.
